Arroyo to DBacks. 2/23.5. Awful.
He should give them 200innings each year and around a 4 ERA with double digits in wins. I don't think the contract is too outrageous.

200 IP of below average production isn't worth $12 million, but you're right, it isn't an albatross.

arroyo had a 5.8whip the last 2 seasons. Not bad for an innings eater. His contract is cheap compared to players with similar resumes

RJ, I knew the D'Backs were looking to shore up their rotation even though they have three or four pretty good men working for them there. I live in the Los Angeles area and, strange as it may seem, they and the Dodgers have developed a fevered dislike for one another. Forget San Diego! Their rivalry with the Dodgers is tepid at best at the moment, but Arizona still is seething over the Dodgers jumping in their outfield pool after clinching the division title last September and harsh words have been flying over the airwaves and print journalism. It almost sounds like the Giants and the Dodgers. Well, it will keep me interested to know that besides worrying about my team and losing sleep over them, I can see these two outfits hurl insults at one another and hold my sides LMFAO. BTW, these guys open the season in Australia for a two game set around the 23rd of March. Jet lag baby-better them than us.

They were after Tanaka, Price, and even Sale. This is settling.

Mark Mulder's comeback didn't last very long.

Mark Mulder Ruptures Achillies

By Aaron Steen [February 15 at 5:25pm CST]

Angels signee Mark Mulder suffered a ruptured left Achillies tendon during agility drills, reports Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times (via Twitter). DiGiovanna adds that the lefty "is not expected to pitch this year."

The former All-Star signed a minor league deal with the Angels in January that would have allowed him to earn as much as $6MM in incentives. Mulder was a workhorse from 2001 to 2005 for the Athletics and Cardinals, averaging 211 innings per season with a 3.65 ERA. However, shoulder issues limited him to just 206 innings from 2006 to 2008, his last year in the big leagues. He had worked as an analyst with ESPN since 2011.

DiGiovanna tweets that the Angels were "extremely enthused by his throwing sessions and confident he would pitch this year." Mulder stood to earn $1MM if he made the Opening Day roster.

Orioles get Ubaldo for 4/48. Considering all of the reports of 80-100 million, that seems like a great pickup for them.

The Orioles had to make a big move Pal and as you said, it seems like a great pickup for them He should be slotted as their No. 1 or 2 starter in my opinion. The only big name pitcher left is Santana. Wonder where he will wind up? You think, maybe us??????? I don't think so either but it does sound intriguing to me.

I am holding out hope that Santana does go to the Red Sox... but I prefer Johann. One of these years, all that bottled lightning will strike with the guy, and I'd like it to be for the Sox. I'm always in favor of minor league deals with big incentives for guys that used to be top tier players.

Has Johan started throwing yet?

Last I heard is that he is throwing privately, and hasn't shown himself to scouts yet. Probably not a good sign, but he's certainly worth a minor league deal.

Homer Bailey extended for 100+ million. There goes all those ridiculous Gardner-for-Bailey discussions.

That number seems a bit scary though. Bailey threw 400 innings of 3.5 ERA ball for two seasons and gets that number. Lester has done that many more times, in a tougher division, coming off a huge postseason. Maybe part of it has to do with Bailey being two years younger, but still, it doesn't seem like much of a comparison.

If they decide the Lester is too rich for their blood, I hope that they convey that to Farrell early on, and Farrell rides him like a horse for 250 innings.

The front office will look awful if they don't try to resign Lester. Lester has been talking about the hometown discount a great deal. He seems convinced that Boston is the best place for his family, he has been talking about how he really doesn't want to have to get to know a whole new clubhouse.

The best free agent options seem to have been dwindling. Scherzer is on the market for now, but he'll probably cost twice as much as Lester if he doesn't re-sign. Bailey is off the board. Masterson is no replacement. Any trade for a pitcher in Lester's class would cost Bradley and Owens, if not Xander.

Lester pitched to a 0.59 ERA in the World Series, and seems like he will only improve with Salty away from the mound. Losing Ellsbury hurt, but losing Lester would turn the club upside down.

Know of my NO NO NO for Drew? Well it is YES YES YES triple times over for Lester. Let's get this thing done with Jon. We all want him, the team says they want him, and he has made it clearer than air that he will take a hometown discount and wants to stay in Boston. I don't think there is anymore of a slam dunk decision to this matter anywhere in Red Sox Nation. I just hope they start negotiating this ST.

I believe Bailey's signing is more about paying a player what the team thinks he will do rather than what he has done in the past. It is probably a smart move when you look at Bailey's recent progress. Injuries with pitchers are always a concern, but that is true no matter when you sign a pitcher.

I'd like it to be a Weaver type deal but I'm guessing it's gonna be something like 5/100M, 2.5M signing bonus, 2 option years(IP triggers) at 20M with a 7.5M buyout. That's 110M guaranteed over at least 5 years and possibly 140M over 7. That gives Lester a nice pay day and it's also a deal that protects the club a bit too. If it's much more then that I bet they let him walk.

Cruz was offered 14 million by his former team. He was asking for 70-80 million in free agency. He received 8 million. I love seeing player's greed screw them, but why does it usually have to be AL East teams getting the bargains ? Eesh.

Is it the players screwing themselves of their agents misjudging their market? I think it is the agents.

The question mark with Cruz is whether he was just a product of PEDs. The old Cruz would have hit a lot of bombs in the bandbox in Baltimore. Off the PEDs, he may not have much pop.
