Maybe someone can help me out on this one----is there any time line when Tanaka is supposed to come to a decision on which team he's signing with, or, better yet, when all the teams interested are supposed to cast their bid for the guy. It seems to me his decision or lack of it so far is holding up a lot of other pitchers signing on with their new teams, and as my pal Palodios mentioned yesterday it is making this off season's hot stove league moving at a snail's pace.

The Tanaka thing is a drawn-out drama indeed. But the other pitchers that are left-Garza, Santana etc.-are nothing to get excited about.

They aren't aces, but they can definitely help a team like the Blue Jays.

Since Tanaka will be pitching in the Majors next year does he have to apply for citizenship in the U.S. or does he just have to get a temporary visa? Reason I ask is I know he was just posted a short time ago and i wonder how that process works and if a potential problem with coming to the U.S. will be a problem as far as the paperwork goes and delay his arrival. I seen he was going to meet with teams today I was just wondering about the long term stay here.

Just curious if anyone had any knowledge on this.

You have to be a resident for five years before you can apply for citizenship. He'll probably establish residency when he signs with a team.

I doubt there will be any problems considering who he is, and what industry he is in.

Doesn't matter, He's just going to marry Jenny Dell for his citizenship anyway and destroy someone else's clubhouse because he'll be sexing a woman!

Who says Tanaka is in the bag for the Yankees?

Not with the big cable TV money shift to Texas and the West Coast. It's a different ballgame.

It's still the same players (Tex signed that dumb ARod deal, both LA teams have had high payrolls). The game would change if Pitt or TB got that kind of tv money.

I have a feeling he might go to Seattle. That would be a sick rotation and they'd be a contendor.

A lot would have to break their way to be a contender. Texas is much better right now.

It would definitely make that a more competitive division though.

I don't think Texas really got much better, imo. Seattle might not be a better team, but I like that they would have a nasty rotation in a pitcher's park. If they can get 1 or 2 guys outside of Cano to contribute I think they can win 90 games call me crazy.

They have five good players on that team. Six if you count Tanaka.

There are almost no options available on FA market for right handed OF platoon options. Delmon Young is one of the few that is still available, but we need someone who can play RF. Gomes is the righty option for left field.

The gift of ARods one year suspension couldn't come at a better time for the $pankees. They would have to be the leaders to get Tanaka. It would be sweat if they didn't get him.

ARod may still play next year if he appeals to the courts. Selig has taken a chance giving ARod a bigger penalty than some who have tested positive. Why the bigger penalty? That's why ARod is going to court. This could be unpleasant for MLB.

He must sign by January 24. Also, it's hilarious that people are saying he won't help us before he's thrown his first pitch.

I just found out the Yankees $3billion Yes network is stuck in my cable package. That's why the Yankees have so much dough. A lot of people who don't even watch baseball are supporting the Yankees and other sports channels. In fact, half of our cable TV bills go for sports. That's where the million dollar salaries come from. That bubble could burst soon--from what I've read.

You still don't understand how "cable money" works. Stop talking about it.

Why the bigger penalty? Well, it's been covered here at length, but one more time then - the additional charges against A-Rod are that he:

1) enticed other players to use PED's.

2) obstructed MLB's investigation.

Obviously the evidence of A-Rod's transgressions was strong enough for the arbitrator.

The early expert opinions we've seen indicate that A-Rod's court appeal is extremely unlikely to succeed.

Yes, MLB appears to have played dirty a bit, but that's a molehill next to the mountain of A-Rod's wrongdoing.

All he's doing now is following in the ignoble steps of Lance Armstrong. It ultimately failed for Lance and it's going to fail for A-Rod just the same. He's done.

Federal courts don't like dealing with cases that were already reviewed under the umbrella of a previously established CBA. That's what the CBA is for. And it was agreed upon by all current parties in good faith.

So in essence, according to both jurisprudence and expert opinion, A-Rod doesn't have a chance in hell, and with good reason.

That guy Bosch said tonite on 60 minutes he gave PEDs to Manny in '08 and ARod in '10 timed in a way that they would pass the PED testing after the games. A number of drugs, including HGH and testosterone. Manny did fail a test later for testosterone, I believe, but ARod has never tested positive.

If this guy is telling the truth--and he is MLB's chief informant--then MLB testing is useless. In a sense MLB is contradicting itself. It means the players are way ahead of the testing, as some have suspected.

MLB should hire Bosch to help catch the cheats.

Bosch is a scam artist. It would look terrible for MLB to be in cahoots with him even more than they already are. Selig cares more about his personal grudge against ARod than keeping the game clean.

Sure, he's a complete sleazeball. But he probably knows more about what's going on with PED's in MLB right now than just about anybody. I know they won't hire him, but he might be a useful consultant at least.

Many, many crimes would never have been solved without help from the sleazeballs.

The MLB isn't covering itself in glory here. To hire Bosch just seems like a terrible PR move. If they want to hire a sleazeball, at least go for one that's not going to be on 60 Minutes.

And I just don't think any of this is to keep the game clean. If they wanted a clean MLB, someone would've asked questions about the A's when the 1988 Topps set came out and McGwire was 50 lbs heavier and Canseco looked like the Ultimate Warrior. After the 88 Olympics, why didn't anyone do something then? My 12 year old brain figured some of these guys had something in common with Ben Johnson. Why couldn't adults see this? Because money!

Well, I think it's a step in the right direction that they were able to get all these suspensions without positive tests.

The sickening development for me was the contract Peralta got.

I'm on board with you regarding the disgust over Peraltas contract. Very sad statement.
