Another wind tunnel shot.....

Flash announcement.....Yankees announce the new Yankees hotel going up just off the 2nd deck in RF. Recent opponent success noted as not being a factor.

Oh well. Blown save for Rivera, another huge knock for Middlebrooks and overall a series won for the Sox. Not shabby at all. Plus the Yankees have the dubious distinction of being the first team to lose 3 in a row while scoring 8+ runs in all three games.

The young man just humped it up too much. That was an overthrow in every sense and Salty just could not drag it down. True he probably should have but Salty is not that sort of catcher.

I would much rather Workman learn a valuable lesson in a game like this after having slaughtered the opponent three straight.

Nothing teaches a young player like an actual experience. He will hopefully learn that he has to control his emotions, his adrenaline and make sure that his motion does not go out the window in a case like this. Clearly Farrell is trying to move Workman closer to the end of the game and he is going to be needed there I suspect.

I didn't see the game (had Gameday only) but I have to ask if Workman is really a late innings kind of guy? He was solid as a starter where he can make mistakes and absorb some runs over 5-7 innings of work. Being a reliever is a different game. The bloops and bitch hits that other guys are talking about are a part of the game, but losing on a wild pitch really bites.

Farrell is moving Workman closer game by game because he does not have a choice really. I do not think it unreasonable to see a bump in the road as a consequence. There is no chance of Farrell moving Ueh out of the 9th for Workman. But, Taz is fading and I would not at all be surprised to see Workman replace Taz with Taz moved to some other spot in the sequence. I will never understand why people think the maturation process is over just because a guy is now wearing a ML uni.

I don't think there is much on the horizon to hope for either. Demps????....he throws way too many meatballs to be brought in late in games when there is no time to recover from one of his doing nothing pitches as it soars over the fence.

What? I don't see it. Tazawa is still their set up guy. What happen Thursday is entirely on Farrell and Thornton. Thornton has to be on the verge of getting DFA. Two lefties in the 9th and Farrell didn't use him.

Middlebrook had a huge series. He has raised his average over .050 points since he turn, he's swinging a power bat and getting on with walks. Nice to see progress.

Taz tired just at the ASB. He is on his second wind already and is showing signs of running low on gas again. He was showing signs of running out of gas his second to last stint. I am particularly concerned that last stint he completely changed his sequence. Have not seen him do that all year regardless if team, batter, circumstance etc. Nothing has inclined Taz to make that sort of change till then. That did not work out for him either. But I am more concerned with why he would change his sequence like that so drastically this late in the year.

Whether you see that in Taz or not all you have to do to see what Farrell is doing with Workman is look. He has steadily moved Workman closer to the end of the game. I would not at all be prepared to rely on Taz to be able to fill the role going into the end of the regular season and I suspect Farrell is preparing to have Workman take some of that load if need be.

Farrell likes to use Taz with runners on because it's hard to steal on Tazawa. And he does a good job with stranding runners as long as he isn't f***ing screwed with like Thursday with 2B vacated.

I love Taz in the role he has been in. But if he runs out of gas he runs out of gas. A pitcher can reenergize himself once in a season and come back as Taz has after running low on fuel at the ASB. Twice is hard to do. it is a lot like a pro cycler that gets close to oxygen death on a big hill but just makes it. He is still riding...he is still in the race but if he gets close to oxygen death later on in that same race, the chances of him getting through it are slim at best. Oxygen death will come on much faster the second time around and the cycler won't likely overcome it the second time. Same with a pitcher that gets close to the bottom of his fuel tank more than once in a season. The second time, fatigue catches up to him much faster and recover is much more difficult if you allow him to get close to the cliff edge.

Farrell is likely to have to use Taz less at this point just to try to reenergize him again. Fortunately the Sox have days off scattered throughout September. I look for Farrell to try to extend the periods Taz has for rest in an effort to back him away from the cliff edge.

We actually saw the last relevant pitch Paps threw for this team in 2011 and it came on the Fenway mound, well before the Baltimore series and the game in Baltimore that we tend to blame Paps for losing. I would prefer that not happen to Taz but that is where he is heading. If he gets there I don't want to see Taz on the mound in a critical spot for this team.

Y'all need to quit s***ing on Farrell. He's made mistakes but look where we are! For f***'s sake try to quit bitching and moaning about anything. Did ANY of you expect to have this type of season?

Waaaaaah, we're in first place. If we had a real manager we could go 162-0.
