Jon Lester(12-8, 3.99 ERA)

Don't let this guy have the satisfaction of getting 20 wins. Don't let the Tigers get the satisfaction of winning the series. Get the bats out and lead Lester into a big win. Scherzer had a bad outing last time out, I hope the Red Sox give him another one tonight. Bad thing is Lester doesn't have a good history vs the Tigers and Scherzer dominated us last time he faced us. All I ask is to come home from work and to see good news. Just get this win please.

Red Sox are a -112 favorite. Doesn't prove my point, but it shows that calling an automatic loss because Scherzer is on the hill is ridiculous.

I have to admire Dave Dombrowski of putting together those lewd trades to get Cabrera, Scherzer, Fister, Jackson and now Iggy. Not entirely sure what they given up, but they got far, far more back. Damn. Edited by Station 13

They are the winners of each of those trades, save for Iglesias. They gave up some highly touted prospects to get Cabrera, none who panned out. Scherzer and Jackson came in the Granderson deal. They also traded Edwin Jackson in that deal. Probably took a step back, but it paying off big now. Fister was another example of Seattle getting fleeced. As for Iggy, doesn't Peralta come back this year? Is trading a top prospect for 50 games of a stop gap that good a move? It might makes more sense if they trade Peralta, but his value has to be pretty low right now.

I think Peralta is eligible to come back for the last couple of games for the season and is eligible for the playoffs. I don't think you should look at Iglesias as a "stop gap." He a great defensive player on a team that has plenty of offense around him. He fits really well in the Detroit lineup. A great defender, who does not have to face as much pressure to produce offensively as he would elsewhere. The reason he is not a stop gap is because the Detroit organization is already considering him the SS of the future for the Tigers.

Peralta is going to be a FA in 2014, so more than likely they do not resign him. This was a long-term move on Detroit's part. Whether they allow Peralta to play come the playoffs is another question. He is eligible, but actually playing again is another thing. Detroit is probably ready to part ways with the Peralta due to his link to PED's. Iglesias is hitting .293 in 29 games with Detroit. He does not have the power that Peralta has, but the defense is solid. I don't see the Tigers really taking a step back at SS because of Iglesias replacing Peralta. If anything, they are better off because of the defense that he provides up the middle and on the left side of the infield. It was a solid move by the Tigers for their future and a move by us to free up space for Bogaerts and trade for a solid starter.

Hmmm.... 10-16 is my birthday. Hopefully that leads to good things tonight.

I'll be scoring the game while listening to the radio, so I may not post a whole lot during the game. In the past, the Sox have won frequently when I don't post in GT's.

I thought Peralta was under control for another year, my mistake. With that information, it looks better in the long run. They gave up a player that wasn't going to contribute to the Tigers championship window, and got someone who could start at SS.

In the short-term, Igleisas is a downgrade over Peralta. Peralta was leading the AL in WAR and wOBA at the time of his suspension. He wasn't a defensively liability either. Iglesias is definitely an upgrade defensively, but I doubt that he will save more runs with his glove than Peralta adds with his bat. The switch won't kill them, but it takes them down a notch.

lglesias will be theirs for 5 more season. The fans there have become enamor with Iglesias, so has their manager and GM. Paralta is a FA after this season. It's worth the price for them filling a need at SS for now and the future.

Miggy is first TC winner to play at Fenway since Yaz.

He's the only triple crown winner since Yaz. There wasn't another person contending for that honor.
