The team that worries me the most now has to be the Skankees who are playing well and have 3 games V houston and 2 more v white sox and 7 V us

The "Skankees" are nine out with 24 to play. Assuming we go 12-12, they would have to go 21-3 to catch up.

How did the Tigers built that f***ing team by trade? Cabrera, Fister, Scherzer, Jackson, Iggy.....damn Dave ends up looking like a winner.

Got them from Florida, Seattle, Arizona, NYY, and us, respectively.

We need to win the series this weekend there. It's dagger for them if so.

What the f***....I know enough not to like to see the Sox face pitchers that can throw curve balls for strikes but has the league finally figured it out? Seen more curves for strikes today than we usually see in a week.

We have Lester and Kuroda on Sunday.

Veras should close this down - but he is definitely a classic case of a good GM and org being smart. Astros took an average reliever, gave him the "proven closer" makeover and got to flip him to an asset to a team like Detroit that was desperate.

It's already over. The Yankees have to jump two teams, and would have to win at an absurd clip to catch up. 0.2% chance of winning the division.

Yanks need a lot of help - the head to heads with Boston do matter, but if the Sox can just win a couple of the games that will be moot. Tampa is another issue - we know the "if Boston does this, TB needs to do that". But the three head to heads do put a wrinkle in that. Sox need to avoid the sweep there and things should still be fine. Honestly, while anything is possible - it is hard to envision that we don't know the 5 teams qualifying for AL tournament.

This team, more than any other team I've seen, has the ability to look like absolute world beaters one day and then look like a team that couldn't take 1/3 from the Astros the next.

The lineup is incredibly pitchable. That's the 11th shut out of the season. Nearly 10% of their games they're shut out.

Just throw strikes and you can get out with 2 or fewer runs

The Red Sox cannot hit when Lackey pitches. Scary thought for the playoffs if they get there (which they should)

I know, the f***ing Run Support Gods are just as vengeful as the BABip Gods. Lackey is being crucified for his 6.09/game run support in 2011.

The Sox could rely on a 4 man rotation in the playoffs. If Lackey still gets no run support, leave him off the roster.

This is ridiculous.

Lackeys run support issue is nothing more than a coincidence

We've scored almost the exact same number of runs as the Tigers, and they've been shut out 9 times, so not a big difference.

Yeah. I know. He is matched up against a quality pitcher each time. In the playoffs, he'll be matched up against a 3 or 4 starter, assuming Clay comes back in top form or close to it.

It is not so much that they can't hit curve balls...they can't seem to foul off curve balls. They are stricken paralyzed by them. I just hope the league has not found the real achilles heel of this offense. They are not free swingers but that is the core of their offensive process. They don't seem to have an answer for a pitcher that can throw breaking balls for strikes which is not the same thing as getting hitters to chase breaking balls out of the zone.
