After a long night followed by a west coast trip, I guarantee you that both Middlebrooks and Drew will get a day off against the Giants, obviously on alternating days. I would guess Drew gets tonight off, Middlebrooks gets tomorrow, and Bogaerts sits on Wednesday.

Also, the Sox face both Capuano and Ryu against the Dodgers, so that's 4 out of the first 6 games that Bogaerts should be playing.

Well I certainly wouldn't bet against what you say here. Makes a ton of sense.

I would. I doubt he starts more than 3 games on this trip.

Why would they call him up to play 3 games when both WMB and Drew could use a rest after the late night and the long trip out west?

And you don't call up your best prospect, and arguably baseball's top prospect, just to play 3 games. If Drew starts against either of the LHP in the Dodgers series, that would be ridiculous.

He'll start 4 games. 2 in each series, and potentially 1 more if they try WMB out at 1B at all.

A couple of flies in the ointment on that:

(1) Drew, since July 31, is actually hitting quite well: .319/.395/.464/.859, 2 hr, 11 rbi. Yes, his last 6 games have been a struggle, but not his last 18.

(2) Drew's season splits vs. RHP are pretty solid: .272/.367/.461/.827. And the 3 SP for San Fran will all be righties. So sitting him here seems to make the least tactical sense.

That said, I still want to see Bogaerts....

Drew was hot but not now ... 3 for last 24.

I think he's up for the rest of the season. It's not "just to play 3 games."

And why does jet lag affect Drew and WMB but not Xander?

Because Drew and WMB played until 1am last night and Xander didn't?

What time was his curfew?

Ha!

I do think they'll ease XB into the lineup.. Give him a quick taste then maybe sit him some too. He'll start getting more regular ABs as the season gets closer to it's end, but for now it's probably just a couple games for him. Maybe some late innings pinch hits/defensive replacements too.

Yeah because that's realistic. I guess players aren't affected by a lack of sleep. That makes better sense for your argument. They're all robots.

That's fine. He's still not starting 4 games in LA and SF.

They do everything deliberately. That's their trademark. I don't expect to see Bogaerts until they face a LHd starter--playing SS. Middlebrooks is hitting well enough right now, and Bogaerts is no improvement defensively--for what that's worth.

Get our first chance to see XB tonight

I thought you were watching WMB in Pawtucket. Didn't you see Xander there too?

Posted
Get our first chance to see him in the ML's and you are smart enough to know that is what I meant smart ass.

With a little luck Bogaerts gets his first hit and RBI, and maybe changes the outcome of the game. If the pitcher doesn't deflect the ball its a hit and possibly allows the Sox a big inning early.

Xander's debut has come and gone. What have we learned about him? Not much. I do still think that he can become the next Pedey.
Posted
There is no way that XB is the next Pedey defensively. But he could be offensively.

XB is going to be light years ahead of Pedroia in terms of power. This is a perennial MVP candidate according to a lot of scouts.

He's still growing into his body, so for all we know, he could be the next Miguel Cabrera.
