When Victorino comes back, I hope Farrell forgets the word "platoon." Nava has earned the starting spot, Gomes has barely earned the chance to "platoon."
I never thought it was possible for nava to win a full time spot, but he has. He is very adequate in LF or RF and he has learned 1B as well. He makes good contact, has very good OBP and he is showing unexpected power. He has been very very consistent. Playing this well for 2 months is more than a hot streak. Gomes has been a bust. He just can't get started.

Looks like we got our s*** pushed in last night. Why oh why are we the only team that can't hit Doubront?

He's had some pretty good outings recently. Chicago and Cleveland come to mind. He's also has some bad outings. Tonight's the pitching matchup that I think we all want to see however.

Yeah, that .711 OPS against lefties warrants regular playing time against them.

In other seasons, there would be no decent explanation. This season, it's because your offense flat out sucks.

I was throwing my daughters bday party, so I didn't watch a lot of the game. But in the early going, we had Doubront up against it and continued to let him off the hook. After the first 4 innings when he allowed 8 runners to reach base, he locked it down for his final 2.

Yankees usually have a lot more trouble with lefties than righties at the Stadium, don't they? That park is a lefty's dream and a righty's nightmare. As the Fox announcers said, Hughes will likely be fleeing next year to a flyball-pitcher-friendly ballpark.

Logjam on the Sox right now at several positions, but injuries have a way of resolving that.

Yanks' hitting has come back to earth. Pitching will be next.

His main problem is his salary is too low to be a starter on the Red Sox.

I feel like the games the Sox lose are relatively close but the games they win are full on blowouts. The stats don't always agree but that's how it feels to me watching/following. After these 2 games saying it's "1-1" doesn't seem fair to Boston based on how the 2 games went. Oh well, there's still game 3 of the series to decide it.

In fairness to the Sox, I think it is less that way this year than in most years Ital. I really do not remember too many Sox teams that were really adept at winning close low scoring games....they always seemed solid in the blowouts and vulnerable in the tight ones. But again I think they are better at it this year than their historical norm even in just a third of a season.

As for Nava, I have thought him our best LFer for the entirety of this year. I think he is too slow of foot for either regular CF or RF but he does appear to have the arm for RF. But if I had my druthers, he would have already been playing everyday in LF and should be there when injuries etc allow for it, IMO assuming Gomes does not play in some noteworthy fashion and the straight platoon continues. All these guys are getting more playing time due to injury. How they all use it might say something about how this goes the rest of the year. Nava was our best LF even when JBJ was here earlier this year as JBJ was simply not a good LFer for that period. JBJ was not much at the plate and he was simply not good playing in our LF. In my view, Nava would have outplayed him in LF. However, JBJ would blow Nava away in CF. I guess just being able to say that tells you something about how I feel about this idea that all three of the outfield positions are essentially the same.

It's another reason why the game is not as good as before big money free agency. Before big money hit the game, stars could lose their jobs to kids. It wasn't a big deal to sit anyone, because none of them made big money. They didn't have to justify a guy's salary by playing him and hoping he would come out of his slump.

But wait! Youk and Tex were suppose to put in serious work? You had me so scared man, not going to lie. You convinced me they'd come back and hit 10x better than Ted Williams.

The Yankees can't hit anyone. They just got shut down by the Mets. The only reason they scored on Lester is because he walked batters.

And the Mets are struggling to beat the MIAMI MARLINS. Let that sink in.

Baseball's a funny old game isn't it? Nobody knows s*** about what's gonna happen next.

2 things

1) We need a new game thread

2)Can it be 8 already so I can watch this game. Finally got a day off, I hope to see them do work!

Don't check the weather in the Bronx. If the game started at normal time they'd get 6-7 in easy. But starting at 8 or 8:15? Not sure they get through 5.
