So Iglesias can't hit a beach ball with a light pole in the minors, but he keeps raking (SSS) in the Majors? dafuq?

As usual he can't hit the ball hard.

Not surprised. We might have to rely on Iggy, Ciriaco, and Pedey with some help from Ortiz.

Ellsbury's hips are flying open before the rest of his body. His swing is all hands right now.

Good observation, Standing Room, I hadn't noticed that. I know firsthand how much that takes off your swing.

Iglesias should stay with the team when Middlebrooks comes back. Unlike Ciriaco, at least he can play defense. I know the common response is that he needs at bats to develop his bat, but he has over 900 at bats at AAA and this is his last option year. At some point before next year we need to make a decision on whether he's good enough for a major league roster spot.

Not saying that his hips aren't flying open, but these pictures don't prove it. The pitch where his hips are flying open is an inside pitch, as shown by where the catcher is set up, vs an outside pitch at the other. Generally you clear your hips when you're turning on an inside pitch and you keep your front shoulder inside the baseball on an outside pitch.

I took those screen caps myself from live games. The pitch where his hips were flying open were on a high and outside pitch, which he grounded back to the pitcher, just like his last at bat.

His career numbers (Ciriaco's) seemed to be pretty decent offensively so I'm wondering what the drop off is. Either way, he is replaceable (and then some) at this point.

.212 BABIP vs career .343 BABIP, that at least starts to tell the story.

Line drive rate is significantly down, 16.1% this year vs career 22.5%, and his ground balls that would result in infield hits aren't happening either. 29% GB vs career 48.1% and he is hitting a ton of fly balls, 54.8% vs career 29.4%.

The fact that he's hitting fewer line drives and more than doubled his FB rate would make his BABIP drop make sense.

At least we probably got Kazmir out of the game with 107 pitches through 5.

Yeah, but their pen has been pretty good.

His hitting is not so much the problem, since how much can you really expect from an Util guy? The problem is that he's sucking ass on the field.

Here's a screenshot from another at bat where the pitch is clearly outside and he opened up his hips way too early.

My concern is that if this stuff is so easy for us to see, how is it that the managers aren't seeing it, or how is it that the managers are seeing the same things but the hitters aren't able to change anything.
