Just watched the game, so I imagine there's been a lot of talk about Carp around here. :D

What exactly were they thinking replacing him with Gomes late in the game?

A solid outing by Aceves, and I don't really blame him for the home runs, at least now Farrell knows not to push him to 100+ pitches again.

Shame about leaving those loaded bases in the offense, though.

A couple of frustrating series for Middlebrooks, but at least we're winning, so there's less pressure than usual, and hopefully he'll find his rhythm soon enough.

Lefty on the mound, so a good spot for Gomes. It was also a defensive replacement. Nava switched from left to first and Bradley went into left. Good managing by Farrell.

Carp hit the absolute piss out of the baseball last night. The man has talent and he's only 26 years old. Maybe this coaching staff, team, and not playing for the f***ing Mariners will mold him into a solid player.

Middlebrooks and Ellsbury just aren't getting any walks. Which means they aren't taking enough pitches. The result is low OBP. Ellsbury needs to get walks batting leadoff.

Middlebrooks is swinging at too many pitches out of the strike zone.

Middlebrooks looks awful right now. I hope a few hits fall in for him soon before this starts getting in his head.

thats what i felt when we got him, he has got decent power to hit into gaps and can go yard as well. i really hope they utilize him properly and not DFA him.

he is a better defender than Napoli and we can use him against RHP. the guy i dont like is Gomes right now.

Who gets sent out when Ortiz returns?
Posted

when Ortiz returns, Middlebrooks might start getting better pitches. i dunno. h

4. Ortiz/Napoli

5. Napoli/Ortiz

6. Middlebrooks

will be very effective middle of the lineup surrounded by fantastic peripheral

good question

Gomes i dont like Gomes but i know they cannot take him out since we already have enough LH hitters and Carp likely will get the boot.

Carp is a better defender at 1st as well. I like what he brings to the table.

I love Napoli/Ortiz/Middlebrooks.

lineup should likely be

Ellsbury

Pedey

Napoli/Carp

Ortiz/Gomes

Middlebrooks

Salty

Flyin Hawain

Nava/Gomes

Drew

Carps primary position is corner outfield so I would love to get him in the mix when JBJ gets sent down. How nice would it be if he turned out to be a diamond in the rough.

I think Victorino has shown he's back, and getting on base. At least for now. The speed combo w/Ells is proving valuable, too. I says he's gotta stay at #2.

Top of the order will most likely stay the same.

Then:

4. Ortiz

5. Napoli

6. Nava

7. WMB

8. Salty

9. Drew

I'm sure the 6-9 will shuffle around day to day.

i am hoping for that too big time.. he carries a good bat. if he is an option for a LH outfielder i say JBJ has to go down and he needs to stay.

hmm good point.

i like Pedey at no 3 followed by Papi then Napoli then Nava/WMB

but at times Pedey is pushing too much to get a run in.. i like him when there isnt pressure on him to get the runner in.

Vs RHP:

Bradley.
He's the best defensive outfielder that we have after Victorino. He's the perfect late inning defensive replacement. Once Ortiz comes back, either Nava or Carp lose all of their ABs. Until yesterday, I would have bet on Carp getting sent out, but Carp looks like he can do some damage to RH pitching. His natural position is first base so he can spell Napoli as well as play some LF in Fenway.

We need to see more of Carp against pitchers that are not leaving everything up and in the middle of plate. Masterson was a Batting Practice pitcher last night.

But we only scored 3 runs against him  Let Carp have his moment, he played well yesterday.

Sure he is. But he needs to go down and focus on his hitting don't you think?

Yea we only scored 3 cause we left the other 117 RISP on without driving them in.

I am sure Carp is enjoying his night in the sun and does not give a rats ass about what people post here. However Masterson was not a test for anybody last night.

I really would like to see Vic and Ells switch although it is working so good right now that nobody is going to mess with that lineup. As good as it has been I do think it would work better and makes more sense. Vic is not even trying to hit for power and Ells would seem to have a more natural power stroke as long as he is healthy. Vic is certainly fast enough to bat 1st.

JBJ is the only defensive sub we have that can be inserted into any of the three outfield positions as a late innings sub. However we are not going to sub out Ells or Vic. So that leave JBJ for LF. That is a waste unless it is a big LF where he could cut off late innings extra base hits.

Plus JBJ needs to play every day. I fail to understand why that would not be self evident. He is not a polished ML ball player yet. He is not a complete hitter by any means and makes too many mistakes in the outfield. He is athletic and that is for now about where it ends.

JBJ would be a waste of a top prospect of we left him on our bench to make spot starts and to be a defensive replacement. Let him get his everyday ABs in Pawtucket and bring him up when the rosters expand. He obviously is not ready for the show quite yet.
