Forgive me if this thread is started a bit early but I felt like 9 games was enough of a wait before our first instance of BTR Mojo in 2013. I'll be making at least the next 3 game threads after this one.

That Cleveland game got you worried?!?

As a side note - I think Farrell left Hanrahan entirely too long on Wednesday. If a closer can't shut the door in 20 pitches, especially with a 2+ run lead, then you need to find someone else to throw the rest of that inning.

The fact that Hanrahan wasn't available last night in-turn made Bailey unavailable in that "key situation". Ideally, you want Bailey in the 8th, but as we saw in NY, having him available in the 7th for an out can be a huge boost. Last night, though, we couldn't use our best arm out of the bullpen because we had to shuffle it up.

I would have much rather seen Bailey come out for that 1 out and then used Uehara in the 9th. Bailey seems like he's a better option to get out of a jam than Uehara IMO. He's got the overpowering stuff more than the deceptive stuff.

So at what point do you warm someone up? When the first runner is on?

Who would you have wanted to come in at that point, Miller?

20 pitches is a rather arbitrary number. I'm pretty sure Rivera and Papelbon have a lot of 20+ pitch 3-out saves.

Ha, only 3? My mojo is good enough for at least a 5 game win streak. If we lose tonight, you get banned. :D

I am ready for this series. I was pretty pissed about called balls and strikes the past couple of nights. It is not an excuse, but Hanrahan had two pitches that could have easily have been called strikes on Wednesday night that would have ended the game. I thought Salty had ball four in his 9th inning at bat yesterday, who knows how that inning would have played out if he would have gotten on base. It sucks that some games come down to the control of the umpires decision making. Although, the rule of thumb should be that in a close game in the 9th inning, anything close should go in favor of the pitcher. Batters at the MLB level know that you have to swing when it is close, it is common sense.

Now that I am done with my rant, whether Farrell should have pulled Hanrahan is another topic. I am just looking forward to this series, hopefully we can walk away from this series with winning the first three out of four so far this season.

Big Papi is not too far away. A decision on Bradley will be coming soon. IMO, it is time to head to AAA to get some more experience. He has come down to earth only hitting .120. Iglesias had a homer last night for the PawSox. I am starting to wonder if they are going to start looking to move Drew. Iglesias has been hot this season. I did not agree with sending him down to AAA at all. He has had a hot bat, and his defense is as good as it comes. The defense in itself is almost good enough for him to be in the bigs, but when he is hitting, it is a huge bonus. Hopefully we can figure something out for him to be on the MLB roster. Whether he can keep his hitting up is another concern.

Well I think complaining about home plate balls and strikes calls is justified but i really do think that the umps that are bad are universally bad for everybody. Sometimes the timing is worse. JBJ was struck out twice a couple nights ago. He eventually walked and scored. That bit of behind the plate blindness may well have won the Sox that game.

I definitely get complaining about the guys that are bad. Barrett drives me absolutely up the wall for example. But I do think the guys that are bad are just bad....always.

MLB Gameday says you're right, the pitch was well off the plate. What a joke, especially when MLB's own website shows us the umps' mistakes.

The joke is that there are no repercussions for horrible umpiring.

Of course not...umps are only human...bad calls are part of the game...the bad calls go both ways...they even out over the course of the season...etc. etc.

The technology is here for accurate ball and strike calls but it's more fun to let the men in blue guess and f*** up...

We have freezing rain, nearly snow in Southern NH. Must be close to as bad in Boston although it is likely a little warmer.

Redsox.com has those authentic triple peak jackets for 50 percent off if anyone is interested. That's too good of a deal to pass up, but living in Miami I'd probably wear it once a year lol.

link please. never mind got it.

Double header then?

I really hope so since I had tickets to this and had my whole weekend shuffled around for it. They always try their best not to do double headers now though, so it's looking like June 17th would probably be the date. Oh well I guess.

June game will be way more enjoyable then watching the game tonight in a blizzard lol sucks but there is a silver lining

This game is officially in the books. Sox snap their 2 game losing streak with a 0-0 tie against the Rays. Both pitchers threw perfect games.

Just lay off the slow crap out of the strike zone you're going to get from now on.

One silver lining is not having to play the Rays for four straight. This can be a very frustrating team to play and four straight can be tough. They have a particular style of play. Clearly they feature their pitching and they put a good deal of pressure on teams because of it. You keep waiting for the runs to come and they just don't. Often when the runs do come, it is your pitching that has broken down and the Rays that are crossing the plate. As much as I look forward to seeing what this year's Sox can do with this year's Rays, I would just as soon not have to play them four straight right now.

That is an extremely valid point. Bad calls go both ways, but there are times where it is extremely frustrating given the situation, especially late in a game.

I agree with you. We had such a great start to the season and it sucks to see us lose the last two, especially since I feel like the umpire really blew some calls. I do understand that they make mistakes, but when it is the difference between being potentially 7-2 or 5-4, it really pisses me off.

Exactly. It is what it is. Luckily it is just the start of the season, we have a long way to go. I think we have a lot to look forward to this year. Regardless of the outcome, at least we are fielding a team that is fun to watch.
