BTW, this Sunday, the Yankee will honor Mo with a patch on their caps commemorating his number. Its the first time a tribute has been made by a team by a player still on the team. I'm gonna miss him.

And the saddest f***ing thing is that this guy was the balls in the playoffs. More men have walked on the moon than have scored on Mariano in the playoffs. And instead of going out swinging in October, the Yankees go out with a whimper in September. Not a fitting end for the greatest closer of all time

Not even the best ceremony on Sunday. Fenway gets a Yaz statue unveiled on Sunday.

MLB is now scheduling a 2014 "Fairwell Mo" tour. He is going to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor and from this day forward every baseball game till the end of time will begin and end with one hour video montages of Mo narrated by john sterling.

Very rarely do you get the chance to say goodbye to the undisputed, best ever, player at a position in baseball. There are debates about every position without any real consensus. Ask who the best hitter ever was in Boston, they say Williams. Ask in NY, and it's Ruth. Ask in Detroit and it's Cobb. Best starting pitcher ever? In Boston, it's Pedro (for a period of time), in LA, Koufax. In Atlanta, Maddux. But ask any fan with a brain, who's the best closer of all time and there is no debate. It's Mo. It also helps that he's just such a like able guy.

jackso, I have to give you credit man. You must have a pretty thick hide to keep coming here.

When we postd on the Boston Herald Forum back in the day, he stayed around after the 2004 ALCS and took his lumps. Have always given him credit for that.

And with him, you say goodbye to quite possibly the most dominant pitch of all time
It's a 1 inning job. BFD. Closers should have a more difficult time getting to the HOF than DHs. His numbers against his biggest rival are not that impressive. Admittedly, he was the most consistent and steadying force that I have seen in the back-end of a pen for such a long period of time. The Yankees will experience tremendous fluctuations in performance from year to year going forward due to the unpredictable nature of BP pitchers. As for the HOF, he has been romanticized way too much. He's a 1 inning pitcher, not a full contributor.

No player who was a 1- inning pitcher for his entire career has made it into the HOF. They are not full contributors. If Mo makes it, Trevor Hoffman's career was pretty close to Mo's. He'd have to go too. Mo will make it, because everyone feints at the sight of pinstripes. He has been built up a a mythological figure by the NY press, and the Yankees won championships. If he played in San Diego, no one would think about him after retirement. Let's face it, if he was a HOF pitching talent, he'd have been a starter. One inning guy, but a Yankee, so he will go to the HOF. What's next career Pinch Hitters in the Hall. It would happen if the Yankees played NL rules.

The same, of course, can be said about Fingers, Sutter and Gossage.

Rivera has had tons of outings longer than an inning, especially in the postseason.

Yep, true, but none were 1 inning pitchers and none of them were locks on the Hall either.

He might have been a HoF caliber pitcher if he wasn't pitching during the heart of the steroids era.

But then he wouldn't have been able to use steroids.

This post is probably the only example anyone who doesn't understand what "irony" is needs to get a full grasp on the concept.

You don't have the moral standing to speak of rose-colored glasses or homerism. You are the biggest rose-colored glass wearing, cheater defending delusional homer on the face of this earth.

Do you know how stupid saying "Petitte is probably a HOF if he didn't play in the 'roid era" is? Petitte was a roider. The awesome thing is that YOUR hipster-style rose colored glasses don't allow you to see him for what he really is. A cheater and a phony.

"But he only used once"!!!! Right, and i'm a T-Rex you mumbling fool.

Just stop.

Petitte wasn't using the same stuff as Clemens, Sosa, Bonds, etc. that were chronic users trying to cheat the game itself by enhancing there stats greatly. And once it came out he was pretty open about it unlike most who would deny until countless amounts of evidence is in front of them.

But to you all he is cheater and phony right? and who are you to judge, the next Pope?

Please spare me this idiocy. I am not an athlete making millions of dollars who ruined his image using PED's. If i was, and i did, i can only wish i had a couple of fans as delusional as you to defend me.

Baseball is a team game, they are part of the team, I think the very best should get into the Hall. It's like the NFL blanking punters. Just because their role isn't sexy doesn't mean the best shouldn't be honored.

His 3.86 career ERA would be the highest ERA among hall of fame pitchers.
