But they got a jolt in the form of Tex and Youk, two difference makers in the lineup. What more do ya want? ;)

Youk looks dead. Tex just doesn't have his timing. He'll eventually wake up, but we don't have the luxury of waiting

BTW, Axisa is spot on with one thing. The games are almost unwatchable. And this is from a team supposedly in the playoff hunt. The at bats are painful to watch and the guys wearing the uniform are boring. Nothing like watching Cano and Gardner hit the ball all over the field and the other 7 guys just sucking ass around them. Also, the anti-climactic nature of the ABs tonight were really bad. You knew that Hafner was striking out. You knew Tex wasn't hitting in the clutch. You knew Youk was dead meat. It wasn't a surprise when they sucked in the clutch, it has become expected.

My 37-29 Yankees are almost unwatchable.

Oh, boo hoo. Talk about spoiled.

Have you watched them lately? They are f***ing boring. Gardner and Ichiro aren't steal bags. Nobody is really hitting long balls. And it feels like we are watching place holders in the lineup. They are boring as f*** and I think the entire fan base was waiting for the bloom to come off the rose and hope that it would last long enough for the band to come back together.

Welcome to the 2010 and 2012 Red Sox

You're bored because they aren't hitting long balls? Do you even like baseball?

He's bored because they're currently sucking ass at everything. You should be enjoying his pain.

The only reason he's really bored is because the Red Sox are ahead of them in the standings so he can't come in to our game threads and go "BOO YAH!" or talk about how the Red Sox are going to be a .500 team by the All-Star break.

And I do enjoy that - quite a bit.

Its not just the sucking ass. It's knowing they suck ass, expecting them to suck ass, and seeing those expectations meet reality. It also blows to watch the pitching work their asses off and lose out.

And SR, I didn't articulate it enough. I don't just watch the game for the long balls. But as a fan of a team, you want to see them put up a fight. They look dead out there, defeated before they step in the box. That is showing in their performance. I mean, how the f*** does your 3-6 go 0-24 in a game that finished with Jesse Chavez, a career AAAA player throwing 6 shutout innings?

It happens, baseball's a long season. I guarantee if the Yankees had a three game lead in the division, you would not be complaining about how boring they are to watch. You would probably be saying your "tick another day off the calendar" ******** and saying how if the Yankees had a three game lead with hurt players, they'll have a 10 game lead when they're healthy.

Let's be honest, that's the main reason you post here.

I read that rant that Mike Axisa posted last night ... I mean, I understand his frustration with how the team is playing. This is the worst offense they've had in over two decades. But when the discussion turns to the offseason and the apparent failures of the front office, that's when it loses a little bit of credibility. The obvious question, the one that is rarely answered over the course of those sorts of critiques, is what should they have done differently? Yes, many of the moves they made didn't work out, and I'm not sure they expected a lot of them to work out. But at the time, what better alternatives were there?

Should have resigned Swisher instead of Ichiro for one. Could have gone much harder for Stephen Drew at SS/3B. That's two moves right there that would have given them a big boost. Swisher got, what, 4/56? That's 14 a year, and the Yanks gave Ichiro 2/13. They could have easily reallocated some of that money and some other money to Swisher.

Ichiro was an atrocious move, I don't disagree with that for a second. They should've just stuck with someone like Chris Dickerson, who's much cheaper and likely would have put up better numbers than Ichiro, especially vs RHPing. But that wouldn't have made them substantially better, and people like Mike Axisa would still be complaining.

Swisher is a different story. A case could be made that they should have resigned him, but an equal, or better case could be made that they were right to let him go. It's not a slam dunk that giving a 32 year old outfielder four years and fourteen million per year is a good move. And we have no idea what the next 3.5 years will hold, nor do we know how he would have done in 2013 with the Yankees, but Swisher has not been good so far this year and that is worth noting.

And Stephen Drew? I mean, the moment someone starts criticizing the Yankees for not being more aggressive in going after Stephen Drew is the moment your argument has reached the point where you're just splitting hairs. Would Stephen Drew have made them better? It's possible, at least defensively. But is it a non-move worthy of excessive criticism? Absolutely not.

How bout dealing for Justin Upton?

And decimate their already lacking farm system for a quick fix that would still leave the team flawed? Isn't that what got them in this mess in the first place ... a lack of young players in the system capable of filling holes on the roster? I'm not sure that's the best use of assets.

I mean, it's all just so simple, right? Should've done this, should've done that. These discussions always amuse me.

Most of us are pretty good at identifying the problem, because generally, that's pretty easy. The Yankees can't hit. Agreed. But the second step, which is the assessment of blame and the discussion of alternatives, is the one most of us really struggle with, often myself included.

Our 3b's have a .668OPS and that is considering Youk gave us 17 games at a .769OPS. Getting them back will be a massive upgrade over the s*** that's been there, even if they play below their career standards.

As it turns out, Youk was still hurt and shouldn't have returned. I thought he'd be a big upgrade. Turns out, he was damaged good. Time to install Mustelier

What happened to the "revelation" that you thought Vernon Wells was? Is he hurt? Is Lyle "Overboom" hurt? Is Teixeira hurt?
