Thank god someone knows what he is talking about. Youk is declining and it is going to be funny when he bombs in the Bronx.
I am hoping that he bombs in pinstripes. I will gag if he ruins opening day for us.

That's right. Napoli is ranked behind Youkilis, but Youkilis doesn't have a degenerative hip disorder. It's really kind of a crapshoot at who gives the better production this season. IMO, I would have gone for the one year on a guy without a bad hip. I think the short RF porch at Yankee Stadium will help Youk's production. We shall see. A bad hip can be career ending. I would have avoided the risk altogether.

It could be. But they apparently did some thorough research and concluded that it won't be. And for a guy without a degenerative condition, Youk sure has played like he has one the last couple of years....

We shall see. I like nothing better than when a player goes to the Yankees and flops. My two favorite current Yankees are Pedro Felicaino (2 years 0 innings) and Pineda (1 year 0 innings so far). They took the Yankee money and never got off their couch. Hopefully, Youkilis will do the same.

Personally, I prefer when they play for the Yankees, but play badly. Vazquez's 5.32 ERA was an awful lot of fun. Joba Chamberlain and the bugs in Cleveland will always have a warm place in my heart.

I also hold Pedro Feliciano in great reverence. One of my Yankee idols, along with Carl Pavano and my personal favorite, Kei Igawa.

I see Lars Anderson just got released by the DBacks, who are deep at 1B with Goldschmidt and another guy in AAA.

Anderson was one of the top hitters in ST for the Sox last year, and they let him go because they had AdGon.

Well, they could certainly use Anderson now. He fits their needs, being a LHd hitter.

They should grab him while they can. Trading for Smoak makes no sense. He has no power.

The most HR Anderson has hit was in AAA with 14 in 2011. Looking at the stats Gomez has better power numbers than Anderson, i think Anderson is a better choice than Smoak but neither is gonna hit bombs for ya. I hate to say i would rather kept Loney than getting Smoak or Anderson. None are power guys but atleast with Loney he would have good defense on the days Napoli is getting a break. But if Napoli does go down with injury and it very well could happen, the red sox need to go out and make a trade because no one of the current roster is worth the time of day.

Im still a Garrett Jones fan.

the whole career.

Ok.

Smoak's eniter pro career - 71 hr's since 08 (47 in MLB )

Lars' entire pro career - 74 hr's since 07 (0 in MLB )

So how does Smoak have less power than Lars?

OK. I took a look at the data again.

First of all, both these guys suck. That the Red Sox would consider either of them is an indication of where they are right now.

Anderson has more minor league hrs--76 in 6 seasons. Smoak has 24 in 5 seasons. Anderson has about 3x PAs, so HR/PA are slightly higher for Smoak, 36 vs 42. OPS is a standoff .801 vs .788.

Smoak also has 47 HR in 3 major league seasons. Anderson has almost no major league PAs. Smoak's OPS of.683 in the majors is not up to standards for the position.

I doubt the Mariners want to trade Smoak, oddly enough. I guess they figure he will turn into Babe Ruth now they have pulled in their fences. But they have a logjam at DH with Morales and Montero, so he might be expendable--but for what price? They have him as their first baseman right now.

The one thing Anderson has going for him is he was the Red Sox best looking hitter in Ft Myers last spring. A kid looking to break out finally? But no place for him at the time. They can get this kid for nothing right now, so he looks like the better bargain. At least they don't know what he can do in the Majors.

Defensively? I don't know where they stand. Maybe a standoff.

Sorry Sox Sport, not this time. Anderson is a three time loser...the Red Sox no longer wanted him, the Guardians couldn't find a place for him even though they needed hitting and apparently "Lazy Lars" had such measly value on the open market that that D'Backs simply DFA's him without trying hard to trade him. Smoak is a switch hitting first baseman and get him out of that airport he plays in Seattle and the power would most likely increase. Besides, he has ML experience, Anderson does not, and again, he never fully showed he had what it took when he was in the Red Sox organization. He sure didn't transfer his good Spring last year into a good regular season. I would take a chance on trading f or Smoak before taking "Lazy Lars" back.

I wouldn't trade any decent prospects for Smoak. They are better off going after Garrett Jones. I can't imagine Smoak being AdGon's LT replacement.

Encouraging article about Napoli's hip prognosis by his doctor:

Looks like he won't catch again, but the hip is healable and shouldn't affect his play this year, anyways.

You figure him to be fulltime at 1B, so they probably don't need a prime time backup or platoon guy.

Sox Sport, we agree on that one. No DECENT or top notch prospects for Smoak, but an average one or two in the lower minors and a reliever might work. I think we are on the same page that we cannot count on Gomes to play out there full time. The guy is a defensive tsunami and the idea we should use Nava as his platoon mate leaves me with a painful toothache. Garrett Jones? He'd be better but he would cost us---you do know that? Well we will just have to say what Cherington has up his sleeve on this one, and you know by now what kind of confidence I have in him.

That's a very good piece of news Sox Sport. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the good doctor is right on about that.

Well gptta' credit the Sox for one thing. At least they bulked up in the right places. It appeared that we had an overabundance of OF and C's. So what happens....bang...No more catching for Napoli and we are already down one OF.:lol:
