Now back to baseball---what do you say? How about us getting another starting pitcher if we can and a hitter who can spell one of our regulars should one of them go down as they have so much the past for seasons?

Unless it's via a trade, I don't care. There aren't any FA SP's out there that would improve the rotation.

Good move User. Tell Ben that when he sends you out on another errand. Now the way I see it we get Napoli for one year and save $34 million dollars at first glance. If Mike has a big year he can earn up to $13 million with incentives. I like that. It does mean we need to resign him next year since we still will need a power hitting first baseman, but for this year we are in pretty good shape----if he and the rest of he crew can finally stay healthy.

With that extra money, I think a Marcum, Floyd or someone better than what we currently have in the rotation would be a good addition to the team. I'm still feeling we could use another decent starting pitcher. That what you think?

My errand is the same every day- to call you out on your whining, so I've got threat covered.

On topic, they really do need another arm and some minor league depth and then they can call it an off season

Another player that I don't get the fascination with. He's essentially got one full good season. He could be interesting but he's not that great and can't stay healthy.

Dojii, you've been carrying a torch for this guy for some time now. It is starting to pay off. I'm now on board. I think he would worth a try because he won't cost much and if he's recovered from his arm miseries he could be a helpful addition by the summer. I think Ben should go for it. Truth be told, though, I would also like to see us add Marcum as well---and that might cost us some cash.

What is Jurjens rehabbing?

I don't think they can add another ML SP at this point. I have heard nothing that says Lackey shouldn't be ready to go at the beginning of the season. If that's the case the rotation is full at the moment. So I don't think Marcum is going to be an option. If any more SP get added it will be on minor league deals imo.

If it was just a meniscus/cartilage scope job, he should be ready for opening day. If it was a reconstruction, that's another story.

I don't think it was anything major. Might have been a more then just a small tear in the meniscus, trying to find where I read it and coming up with crapolla. He went on the DL in August with a groin injury.

The reason I like Jurrjens is that he's a control type with a good slider who throws in the low to mid 90's. Seems like a good combination of tools and stuff, and seeing as he's been effective in the past, I think he's one of the better remaining gambles out there. Just don't expect 200 innings.

Jurrjens must be in pretty good health he is listed on the Netherlands World Baseball Classsic roster so if hes healthy enough to pitch against the world competition id think he is well worth a minors contract if not just signing him to a low salary on a guaranteed majors contract. Because once the WBC starts his price is going to go way up if he pitches well.

I'm really excited for the Netherlands team this year. Bogaerts is playing too.

I have two players who almost made it on this years roster, but they will remain on the 21 and under team this time round. Fingers crossed for the next WBC.

No you were not addressing me but you referred to me in a nasty way. Just don't mention me at all and we'll all be happy. I have no desire to interact with you either because I can't learn anything except how to post smilies and some non-sensical one liners that fall flat.

Believe me, you annoy me no end with your total lack of baseball knowledge and your penchant to wave the pom poms at everything the Red Sox do, and thank God you're not my sister. Your husband has my deepest sympathy and this IS THE LAST POST I WILL EVER SEND YOUR WAY. Just keep my name out of anything you write and both of us will be happy.

If you think I am going to let a personal attack by go unanswered, you have lost your mind.

A lot of other posters call your posting style annoying on a regular basis. Your constant whining, stupid nicknames, USE OF CAPS, long incoherent rants about the team or GM etc is annoying. I think it's time for this ownership group to move on. How is that pom pom waving? I am willing to give Cherington a chance, so what?

Just because I choose not to spew my opinions or pretend the think I know what is best for this team doesn't mean I lack baseball knowledge. I don't know what is best for the Red Sox and I never will pretend to, but I've been a fan all of my life and nothing will change that. I will always support the team the FO puts out there. I don't enjoy stressing out or worrying about things I have no control over. I enjoy the in game threads, it's fun to me to interact with most members out here about the games. The plus there too is the fact that you don't participate in the GT's.

You feel sorry for my husband? LMAO!! I feel sorry for all of the members out here who are subjected to your annoying "look at me and all my knowledge and fandom" posts and posting style.

Go Red Sox!! You can't see, but I'm waving pom poms!!

I sooooooooooooo long for the game threads it hurts!

Is that when real baseball talk occurs and we stop hearing about Ben's cup size?

I would stay away from Jurrjens. His velocity has been dropping consistently through the last few years and was averaging only 88.6 mph last year. He just isn't the same pitcher he once was.

Did you know that C-cups were originally named after Cherrington?

At least when we are into the game threads we are watching actual baseball. The offseason grinds on forever with a number of us getting sort of testy. Then the numerous pissing contests begin often not having a single thing to do with baseball or the team or the organization or anything other than....a pissing contest for the sake of a pissing contest.

Take it from me, if there is one thing true about a pissing contest that involves older men (myself included) the one thing that is almost universally true is that physical issues dictate that we have to "go" alot'. Expect several salvo's if you get into a pissing contest and that is about how some of these go as it gets later into the off season.:D:D

Hopefully, our offseasons doesn't start in August like it did last year. The problem with sucking as bad as we did last season is that our hot stove started in August. It's a looong time to March from August.

This year's off season thread was created on August 20 by SFF, one of TalkSox's most positive and optimistic posters. Realistically, our season was over 2 weeks prior to the thread.
