I don't think Floyd's price will be very cheap. I'll bet he gets $8 million + per year.

Ah, I was thinking in terms of what the White Sox would want in a trade. Sorry, should have clarified that.

On a one year deal 8M is not alot. Not sure what CWS are going to want for Floyd? It can't be too over the top I would think. But nothing is going to happen on that front unless the White Sox sign another pitcher.

Why does everyone think guys are itching to come to Boston on a discount?

Why does everyone assume that when someone suggests going for someone if they lower their asking price, as someone else assuming they want to come to Boston on a discount?

Because you are asking them to take a lower amount than what they are going to get. Sanchez is expected to sign a deal for 5-6 yrs at an annual rate at or above $15 million

I think he just misjudged Sanchez's swollen value as he's the #2 SP available at a time when it's thin. That fact alone probably gets him an extra year at 15M. I can totally see LAD coming in and torpedoing everyone on Sanchez if they miss out on Grienke.

A little leery of Jurjens. He did well against us but he is just the kind of guy that ate us alive last year. Come to think of it Jurjens kinds of pitchers just had their way with some of the AL East teams.

We always think of pitchers with success in the AL East as being able to bring the heat and really guys that could locate last year just ate us alive....in some cases ate the Yanks alive as well and the O's and the Jays. The entire division of hitters was way to aggressive last year. Not sure if that was a culmination of years building up to last year. Not sure if they are going to smarten up this year. But they were made to look pretty feeble on occasion.

Maybe that is a recommendation for Jurjens. I cannot believe hitting coaches didn't just pull every last hair out of their heads last year and will try something to return hitters to some sanity.

Giants non tendered Wilson.. I know we just NT'd Hill and Atchison, but I think taking a gamble on Wilson to close if Bailey goes down, or closing instead of Bailey, wouldn't be a bad idea.

And yes, I know he's a post-op pitcher.

Adding Wilson for mid season depth would be good move. Other teams are going to be interested and I read he wants to play in LA.

The Rays and Price are not close to working out a long-term contract extension.

Wish there was some way for the Sox to get him. He's exactly the type of front line SP they need. They have the money to extend him too. I just don't see any way TB does that. 3 way deal maybe but even then I think they would rather send him out of the division.

He might be worth it as a depth option, but he is injuries make him unlikely to start 30 games.

Yes he would be a depth option. I think it be foolish to pencil him into the rotation. Ideally it be nice to stash him in AAA, but I think someone will give him a ML deal.

It would be nice if the Sox got lucky with one of those depth staring pitchers they sign and got a good season out of one of them. Jurjens is not to far removed from having success and it wouldn't be wrong to take a chance on him. Don't forget De La Rosa who we got in the trade from the Dodgers. If healthy you might see him in Boston by mid-season. As far as Price goes the Rays would never trade him to someone in the division. The only way the Sox could get him is as a FA, and then they would be competing with the $pankees and the Dodger$.

Agreed. If you could get him some time down in the minors and see what happens there he wouldn't be a bad option at all. Likely, he'd be filling in if someone went down. Still, he has shown some flashes of good stuff, so if you can get him on a minor league deal you really wouldn't be gambling at all. That way you're only getting upside, and if it doesn't work out he can just go.

Two recent Gordon Edes tweets:

RT @ESPNJoeyMac: Red Sox met with Mets on knuckler R.A. Dickey, according to a baseball source. Mets want Bogaerts and Bradley, Jr.

:o

And then, following that:

Relax, peeps: Sox wouldn't give up Bradley Jr and Bogaerts for Dickey.

Phew.

I threw up in my mouth when I read that first tweet..

You and me both. I tried to find the "I'm horrified" emoticon...that was the best I could come up with.

I think the " I just lost all anal control" emoticon would have been more appropriate.

Who in their right mind would make that deal?

Why are the Mets even asking for a haul like that?

I mean I know he won the CY and all, but damn.

The Red Sox can't afford to give long contracts to guys like Jackson/Lohse/Dempster who will fail hard in the AL East. The number of available starting pitching has significantly dried up already. The list gets longer every day:

Burhle,

Josh Johnson,

Guthrie,

Ervin Santana,

Hanson,

Haren

Kuroda,

Peavy

Baker,

Pettite

I do not know what is in Ben's radar anymore (pitching).

The deck is very thin now and this is what we need the most.

He is rumored to be grooming one of the Sox's 15 catchers for the rotation.

The deck was always thin. I think he will get SP in trade. Salty for Floyd and the Ellsbury+ for SP X. That adds the 2 SP they need and avoids the questionable FA market. That's what I see happening.

Salty for Floyd & Ellsbury + a prospect for a #1

I dont think that would be too bad

Move Victorino to center & go after Cody Ross & Josh Hamilton

Only thing left is to get Brian Wilson to close... Offseason Complete

Victorino

peddy

hamilton

nap

ortiz

c ross

Middlebrooks

lav/d ross

iggy

Now thats a good line up

That's way too much for one year of Floyd. Salty alone is possibly enough to get him. Maybe a lower tier prospect added in. They should be able to make two separate deals to get SP.

Other then that, the trade Ells route and sign Ross/Hamilton is very well in play.
