How is it a slap in the face? They just DFA'd another player to keep him up and are looking for any possible way to give him playing time.

Also, how is Iglesias "coming back down to earth"? He's hitting .421 with a .491 OBP his last 15 games, and .476 with a .577 OBP his last seven games. That is the opposite of "coming down to earth", that is "setting the league on fire"

SoxSport, I think making Iggy the "utility" man right now is a slap in the face to the young player. I was never a big fan of his hitting prowess but he has shown that can hit up in the Bigs. Unlike our friendly Yankee resident I won't expect him now to crash and burn, but he certainly is coming back down to earth. Until then he needs to play to stay sharp and Farrell has to find the right way to do it. Our defense has been good of late and moving guys around can derail that. I have seen it with the Dodgers out here where I live and I'm told the Mets have had similar problems as have a couple of more teams.

How so? It's been 15 games.

Iggy will have to stay sharp as a utility player. He will be their regular SS next year--or earlier if Drew gets dealt. Or 3B if Middlebrooks continues to hit .200.

The FO plays the money, and that's how it is. After all, they spent it, and have to justify it.Let's face it, this is not one of the better FOs in the majors, though they've improved this year by adding a few people.

Stephen Drew has an OPS of 1.080 in June.

Iggy is showing the potential to be a .250 hitting all world defensive SS that so many championship teams have had in the past. Indeed, may have to have.

Why do you bother? He doesn't know what he's talking about.

I'm not going to go into a thorough player analysis with him, but if I know a one-liner stat off the top of my head, I'll still throw it out there.

 Are you serious? When Drew was signed Iggy was a huuuuuge ?. The fact the Iggy has finally shown he's capable with the bat does not make the Drew signing bad.

Let's face it, this FO had a team in last place filled with superstars, dumped the malcontents, brought in role players and now is in first place. God, they are just horrible, aren't they?!?

This team is so poorly run that not only are they in 1st place in the AL East, but they also have one of the top 5 farm systems in MLB, and possibly the #1 prospect in all of baseball.

DFA THE FO!

But they signed Ortiz for TWO years!!! That means he won't try in 2013 as he's not playing for a contract, right?!?

How? How? Be real User. The guy is hitting in the 440's, has hit well against the Yankees, Angels, and just about every other team. His fielding has been magnificent, his attitude terrific. Hell yes, it is a slap in the face, better yet, a kick in the ribs. DFA's another player to keep him? What challenge was that? Ciriaco wasn't hitting worth a damn, was a disaster on defense with seven errors in occasional appearances, and showed no signs of the player we had last year. The league caught up with him. We again will have to agree to disagree but IMHO Iggy should be playing until he cools down.

He's going to be playing nearly every day. I don't understand why everything has to be taken to the extremes with you man. "Slap in the face" would have been sending him down to AAA or not giving him any security in terms of playing time.

Yeah--when a guy is hot, you play him until he cools down. Then you give him a few days off, and bring him back. It's like horse racing. Horses run in peaks and valleys. Athletes, too.

When they "valley", you rest them. Every manager should own a race horse. Or train one.

That's your opinion. Mine is that is was a slap in the face and that IS MY OPINION and whether you like it or not it will stay that way. If you think that is an extreme opinion fine; we will one again for the umpteenth time just have to be gentlemen and agree to disagree with no personal attack stemming from my opinion. To me, when a guy is hitting in the 400's and then benched for two guys hitting 200 and 234 it is a kick in the ribs and not an inducement for the confidence you have in a player. If Iggy can be in the lineup most of the time, then fine, I can live with it, but to make him a utility player after the way he has performed not only is patently unfair, it is, IMO totally ridiculous and a threat to the young man's confidence.

SoxSport, there are some of us who understand that and are strong in our opinions on that matter; some disagree and that is what this board is for.....to express our opinions and be ready to defend them. What it is NOT for is to be attacked personally for our opinions. User can disagree with me all he wants; we have totally different opinions on most things. As long as he tells me he disagrees with me and tells me why, I'm fine with that. I think it has come down to that....that there seems to be a lot more live and let live and to each his own now than there was, say, last season. Of course winning helps in that a lot.

But he IS going to be playing the majority of the time, so why get angry about it?

User, I am not angry, not at all.....just passionate and emotional as always. Hell, I've been on a high all day since I found out we pulled out a game I thought we'd pissed away last night. Haven't cussed once when my posts come back with a blank page or this program cannot be found. (have to talk to Youk and EZ about that).

Look, I said Iggy is going to come back down to earth; he or no one not named Puig can keep this up. In the meantime I want Jose to stay sharp and contribute and if that means sitting down Drew or Middlbrooks every two or three games, then fine. Besides, I don't think Drew should be in there against lefthanders. Do we at least agree on that?

And I hope Lester can keep me on a fairly high cloud tonight. We need that from him.

Posted
Well yeah, that's kind of my point. The plan is to use Iggy against lefties and to give WMB much-needed breaks. And i'm going to be honest with you, i wouldn't be surprised if Iglesias ends up taking away WMB's job.

Ciriaco hit .340 in his first 75 AB last year and look where he is now

I think he'll remain a good play against lefties but good RH will be able to get him out consistently. That's why a platoon with Drew makes all sorts of sense.

I think the one thing Jose Iglesias proved this year was that he is capable of being an everyday player. What he flashed was the potential to be a consistent hitter in the big leagues, which is an important test for any young player. Its the reason why people still have faith in Middlebrooks even though he's having a tough year.

The Sox sold high but if next year Iggy goes .300/.350 and wins a gold glove for Detroit I won't be shocked.

I highly doubt Iggy hits .300 next season. He has been very luck with the balls he has put in play this season (he has a shitload of infield hits) and has been in a huge slump lately. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't even finish this season over .300
