Now I know why we suck at timely hitting.

Because everytime we need a timely hit, Aviles is up.

In all fairness he's been killing it with RISP this year:

.338/.356/.550/.906

Ever wonder how Aviles got 50 RBI?

Wow' date=' good for them. Good for Pirate fans.[/quote']

Yeah, tell me about it. I'd love to see them make the playoffs this year. Supposedly they're gunning to win that division.

Yeah but I bet he was hitting like .600 w RISP for the first 2 months.

Maybe I just hate him because he's blocking someone who can help this pitching staff immensely.

Sort of interesting that Shop is batting ahead of Aviles tonight. I wonder if they had to catch Salty tonight if he would have been 9th in this order.

Ross is possibly the most likeable player on the Red Sox right now.

Sure now that Lillibrige is gone and Lackey is recovering from injury.

Geez what a bad call that was. It is not like one of those plays where the ump has to have his eyes in two places at once. Good thing it did not hurt.

I do wonder if Shop will get more opportunities in the second half.

So far this year it seems he has gotten the call:

when a LH pitches for the other guys like tonight

when it is a day game after a night game

a Double Header day

I can't think if any other opportunities he has gotten other than that short stretch when he caught Beckett.

I would think there is not much of a reason not to split the time more.

Don't know SFF...would have hated to see that thing get outta there considering how well Buch has pitched so far. But I did not think it had a chance when hit and I think it was within a foot of getting out.

So what are we going to blame this offensive shitstorm on tonight? They've had plenty of time to put a couple crooked numbers on the board.

Instead, they've put up 1 run on a rookie.

Buch has induced ground outs before but the amount he is getting tonight is kinda' insane. Don't think he has had a night quite like this in 2012 so far.

Crawford looking inside every single pitch.

Getting pounded away. Fouling off bad pitches on the inside rather than taking them. And striking out on sliders.

It's a simple formula.

Crawford needs to adjust and shoot the ball to the left center gap.

Finally got home. I've been listening to the game since about 6:10 pacific time... now watching it on MLB.tv

Buchholz is terrific. Imagine if beckett & lester followed suit? jimminy crickets!

We still gotta hit the ball, though.

I'm legitimately concerned with this offense.

Life without Ortiz...we're getting a preview of it.

We absolutely have to resign Ortiz. Incredible dedication to the game he has to get into such good shape for the Sox this season. He deserves 2-3 yrs.

Not sure what to say about tonight's offense. The RH lineup has grown somewhat vulnerable to LH pitchers that can find the outer third of the plate with two strikes. Aviles has a hard time with that pitch...Ross does....WMB hit that one but I am not sure how many times you can depend on being able to jerk a ball on the outer half to left field if you are a RH hitter. I have not figured out what to think of how Shop hits.

Pedey for his part seems intent on trying to drive the ball out especially with Ortiz out of the lineup.

This offense does almost totally depend on stringing together hits to score runs. They don't get many walks and don't move runners over that well. So they have to string together hits to score. Sometimes they can't even score when they do string hits together.

Since their speed guys are both LH hitters, that factor is somewhat negated by a LH pitcher.

So, the Rangers call an emergency starter who has a 5.98 ERA to start against them. They score 1 run in 7 IP.

Then they call a rookie starter who has a 5.54 ERA in the MLB this year and over a 4.59 ERA in AAA. They score 1 run in 6 IP.

That's freaking pathetic. What an absolute impotent offense. It's absolutely unacceptable, too.

And yet we're the #2 offense (runs scored.)

So strange how hot and cold this team goes.
