Nathan got cute there and paid for it. That pitch cannot be left out there like that cause the hitter might be able to keep the head of the bat in the hitting zone long enough to do just that.

One of the things that makes baseball such a great game. Funny how pitchers can fall in love with an idea.

Are you f***ing kidding me? These little hits are what's going to make Aviles our SS for the next 10 years. He was in the doorway and just needed a few more nudges to be gone.

Are you actually complaining now that Aviles got a hit to put the Sox ahead? Is there anything you people won't complain about? I swear the Sox could stage an historic comeback and win the World Series and half of you would demand the firing of every coach and player because it took them 6 games to win.

I think Aviles and Punto getting a big hit are the only 2 I'd complain about, just because I don't like them.

A win....wish Buch could have gotten it. He really kept them in it against that tough lineup.

Geez they have to to do something for the other four starts though.

I have absolutely no freaking idea what to make of this team...

Oh yes you do. Felix and Frank are on innings limits. Cook has to keep the ball down all the time and Lester and Beckett suck. This is coming down now to 1 good start in five on occasion....Buch's. That is the story regardless of all the other crap going on around it.

Nice win, but the other 4 spots have been the reason they are in this current predicament. Buchholz has gotten the run support all year until tonight and he made do.

Other pitchers on this staff should take note.

Unbelievable number of ground ball outs for Buch tonight...a great great performance. What is truly amazing is that he has dragged himself all the way back to where at least for now (and I always have my fingers crossed with Buch cause of the injury bug) he IS the stopper for this team. He has been the guy over the course of the last 12, maybe 16 games that has come up in his turn in the rotation and really done a great job. Were it not for that, we would likely be looking at 2-9 or maybe 2-10 over this last stretch of games. He has truly been the only thing that has stood between the Sox and an even uglier stretch than it has been of late.

wow had to go thru the game threads to check what the bet was.. pretty f***ing unbelievable how it turned out in paladois's favor..

its the same f***ing scenario. when pitchers pitch well we dont get enough runs. and when our pitchers bleed we get 1+ runs less than the opposing, or we just dont get anything at all like the one from the 1st texas game...

Shoppach needs to catch 3 out of 5 games. we just give us a better chance, and Salty will still hit HRs every few days. i like that better .. atleast for the catchers spot lets have Shoppach catch more games from now on vs playing Lefty Righty matchup everytime..

Our team stinks. They have shown themselves to be completely incapable of going on any sustained run, hence the .500 record. I am sure that someone will post some meaningless stat to show that we are better than our record-- maybe we have the best record in Tuesday night games in all of baseball, but it is a mediocre team at best with the heart of a loser. The second wild card keeps us dangling and keeps a glimmer of hope alive. If only Lester could pitch like 2010, if only Beckett could pitch like 2011, if only we didn't spot the other team 3-4 runs in the first inning of every game, if only Ortiz comes back healthy, if only Ellsbury plays like he did in 2011, if only Crawford played like Tampa Bay Crawford, if only the umpires would give us some calls, and on and on. If only the Queen had balls she would be the King. To many ifs= failure.

I would assume Pedroia' date=' being the unofficial team leader and mouthy little bastard (but I love the guy), will be hit, now that the designated Sox target for the league is playing for another team.[/quote']Since we don't have Youk anymore, I would bet that it will be Pedroia or Ellsbury.

Beltre plays third, so I was thinking maybe WMB would be the target? Or maybe whatever position in the batting order Beltre was.

I've never really figured out who gets picked to be the retaliation target.

Either of you two know how it works?

It's always seemed to me that every team has their guy that is the target of the rest of the league. The personification of your team that the opponent uses as the target instead of choosing randomly. For the longest time, it was Youk for the Sox. Jeter is usually the Yankees guy. A lot of times it's the most well-known player, it seems like, but sometimes it's the mouthiest or most disliked guy, the one who always makes his opinion known. That's why it's usually Pierzynski for the White Sox.

I didn't get to see the game as I was working last night, but did Padilla really hit Beltre in the head on purpose? Padilla sort of comes off as a douche to me, so it wouldn't surprise me, which is why I'm asking.

I finally found video online, it was an 0-2 count, no way that was intentional, but still some retaliation wouldn't surprise me.

He's just misunderstood.

I think that Padilla was mad at himself for having made a truly stupid play in that throw over to 1st that got past Agons. However I don't think he took it out on Beltre so much as he simply lost concentration and made a very bad pitch.
