Whew. His pitch count was just too high tonight' date=' it would have been painful to see him pulled in the 8th with 130 pitches.[/quote']

I think the Astros had a no no using 4 pitchers.

didn't think he'd actually get a no-no.

but Doub sure is pitching excellently homerun or not.

Doubront w/8 Ks and Buchholz w/9 last night. Hell yea.

All the K's are what drives Felix pitch counts. He really does need to find a way to get more ground ball outs so that he can go deeper into these games. He is that one step away from making it into 1-3 in the rotation.

I like his performance just the way it is. No contact=no possiblity for a hit. If he can do 7 innings like this I am quite happy.

Generally the rule of thumb is that you don't pull a pitcher if he hasn't given up a hit. They had to take out Millwood after he pulled his groin, supposedly.

Point is Felix won't be able to pull this off every time out. Sure 7 innings every time out would be fine but the Mariners are not exactly murderers row and Felix will likely not get past 7 against them.

Seven innings of one run ball, either with 9 K's or no K's; I'll take it either way. More innings is better, but this is just fine. Most games he isn't going to strike out this many hitters. Remember: he is supposedly our #4 SP.

So far as the pitching goes, last night's performance by Buchholz had me thinking that perhaps toying with the idea of a 5 1/2 starting rotation - the 1/2 being a 6th starter who, if there is a rest day drops from the rotation, if that makes sense. I've not looked into the stats or anything, but the guys seem to have that little extra zip on their fastballs etc if they get that one day off extra. Could improve all concerned. Just an idea.

Felx has a good enough pitcher to advance out of the 4 hole. The post I made originally said that all he needed to do was go deeper into games to advance from the 4 hole. So that is why I would like to see him get more ground ball outs. He could easily be the Sox 3 of the future. If Buch keeps going like this he could be a 2 at least.

If he continues to improve, I'd bet he could be a #2 pitcher in the National League by next year. But having him as a damn good #4 works for me.
