  1. 1. What role is Bard best suited for?

    • Starting - Continue the experiment. Rome wasn't built in a day

    • Relieving - Make hitters peed their pants and cry when he sees a slide piece

I can't say that I know how often Halladay went loopy. I think the issue with Bard is that this is his career for the most part....up, down....can't find the strike zone.....go to the stretch 100%, on and on and on.

This is IMO who Bard is which in part says to me that Sox FO is not deserving of as much criticism as they are getting in this case. Some yes, but saying they ruined a guy that has so often been on the bring of ruin his entire career just does not make sense to me.

There are a good many guys tout of baseball that could throw hard for about a minute or could throw hard without knowing where the hell the ball was going.

Maybe he will make it back....maybe he won't but if you can't consistently slot your arm, pitching consistently is pretty hard. Some guys can toss their arms all over the place on purpose but not many.

You guys may have noticed how super consistent and hard Vicente was throwing the ball in the heat the other night. I suspect he must love the heat cause he had not thrown like that one other time this season....not that good yet it he has not thrown in that much heat at any other time this season either. He was slotting his arm more consistently than I have seen him...maybe ever.

Bard is probably having a bout with self confidence which is 50% of sports performance. They messed his head up changing roles for him. They also did the same with Ells and Youkilis, with disastrous consequences. You can't try to fix what ain't broke. It's too risky. :)

I hear that the Sox are discussing a trade for Garza with the Cubs and that Bard could be part of the trade package. IMO, you return Bard to a middle reliever role and he'll go back to being the fireballing 100 mph+ badass. It's just that our bullpen is so good right now,and our starting pitching so bad that we've forced Bar to attempt to be a starter and that might be a round peg in a square hole fit.

"•The Cubs could be interested in Red Sox pitcher Daniel Bard in a Matt Garza trade. Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer, and Jason McLeod all have a strong history with the right-hander."

You can't try to fix what ain't broke? What ever happened to "if it ain't broke don't fix it?", doesn't that mean in this situation the sox should "fix" it....Just sayin'

A fine line between good and bad with these guys. If they get mishandled, they can go sour. They can also slip if they gain a few pounds and slack off in their conditioning. Lester has lost his cutter, as he has gotten chubbier.

Cross your fingers, folks...Bard has now had 3 consecutive scoreless 1 inning stints, with only 1 walk in the 3 innings.

It's Daniel Bard Bobblehead Night tonight in Pawtucket. The first 4,000 fans 14 and under get one free.

Apparently, if you're willing to pay you can get the special model that throws 92 MPH fastballs all over the place, many of them right at you.
