In more than 60 years of watching baseball, I never seen a worse performance by pitching staff except for the 30 run debacle by Texas over the Orioles.

I should probably take a couple days off the board like Fred did, because the ******* explosion that's about to take over the website will be impossible to contain. s*** will be flying everywhere.

Peace.

Don't do it.

No, thankfully he is taking a MONTH off. Wish some others would follow suit.

Way to completely turn my words around. I never said we need to go into rebuilding, I am saying we are closer to being that type of team than to contending.

And teams with the financial backing that the red sox have don't completely rebuild. Small market teams do, not a team like the Boston Red Sox.

What im saying is, with an offense like the sox have, above avg starters ( I don't care about bad starts ) we are closer to rebuilding than contending??? No sir, your wrong

Well for one thing they will find a way to play better this year once they truly understand what they have or should I say don't have. Not convinced that means they can compete this year but they will play better. Ultimately I think if there is one macro issue I think they have to deal with, they need to keep a good mix of vets with contracts with young guys that are cost controlled. They cannot allow these big gaps to appear in that flow of talent and they have to be willing to cut guys away before they are on their last legs.

We could have finished in last place last year in the standings and it still wouldn't have been as bad as the epic September Sox collapse that ALL baseball fans will remember forever.

Nah..... 2004 still epic collapse of all. 1 out was all you neded :D:thumbsup::harhar:

Dare I say there are positives to take from this shocker?

1. Doubront was quality.

2. Salty is hitting finally.

3. Ortiz is still god-like.

4. This shocking performance from the pen surely has to wake management up to the fact that we need better arms

anyone agree that bobby valentine was a BAD choice? takes pitchers out too early when they're doing well and keeps them in when they're doing s**t..... bring back FRANCONA

I could have told you that, living in NY. He is the king of over-managing. He's this generation's Gene Mauch.

Nope

After beating the Texas Rangers on Sept. 3, the Boston Red Sox were 84-54. Although half a game behind the Yankees in the American League East, the Red Sox had a nine-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays for the wild card and roughly a 99.6 percent chance of making the playoffs.

I simply can't imagine where they would get those arms.

You are an idiot and I'm a hypocrite.

This is his modus operandi when someone disagrees with him/her.

You cannot win this game with the pitching staff we have. Our starters are all pitching awful and we have the worst bullpen in the majors by a mile.

We can have all the offense we want, but we just lost a game by 6 runs when we put up 9. You will not win any games when your bullpen coughs up 9 run leads.

Overheard in the owners box :

Henry-- You know, Larry, this kid Tazawa looks like the best pitcher in the bullpen right now.

Why don't we make him the 5th starter and move Bard to closer?

LL: Sounds sensible. But we'll have to clear it with the front office. Bard really wants to start.

Henry: Well, it's about winning, you know. And right now, we don't have a closer. And another thing, why are all those hot prospects winning games in Pawtucket and not here?

LL: Sounds sensible, too. But the front office thinks they need more experience.

Henry: Don't you think Dubront should have started the 7th inning? Seems like your Bobby V didn't make the right pitching decisions in this game. The fans don't seem to be taking very well to him.

LL: Sounds sensible, again. I'll suggest to Bobby that starters should go deeper into games when they are throwing quality starts--to take the pressure off the bullpen.

Henry: Sounds sensible, Larry.

How do we have an above average starting staff?

We have 2 real quality starters. One of which, beckett, has been rotating good seasons with bad ones the past 4 years.

After those two we have a bunch of question marks.

Did you forget what happened last September in Boston?

After beating the Texas Rangers on Sept. 3, the Boston Red Sox were 84-54. Although half a game behind the Yankees in the American League East, the Red Sox had a nine-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays for the wild card and roughly a 99.6 percent chance of making the playoffs.

And you played 5 more games than us didn't you...

04 still the best epic collapse all I need to say is 1 out and mariano on the mound and the rest as we say is history

Ahem...... How many teams in all sports have come back from being down 0-3??? Go ahead and google it, I'll wait.... The Yankees were a 99.99999999 % favs to win that series

Please google the starters stats from all gms so far.... Don't look at their w/L don't look at their overall era..... Then tell me our rotation is not above avg??????
