And that's not good enough when it comes to the 9th inning. I do not want the guy whose job it is to take the ball in that inning have it anywhere in his mind that he doesn't want to be there

Have you any proof that he even dislikes that role? As I said, his likes and dislikes don't matter much to me. I think that players need to do what they are told to do, like any other employee. But I don't remember him stating that he would not want the closer role at all. Did he say that?

i am with Dojji on this one.. if someone doesnt have a mindset of a closer, no matter how good his stuff is.. i dont think he should be given the ball in the 9th..

Guess thats why the poll is up. Some are in agreement with you; some aren't. Count me as in the other camp.

I do not like Bard closing, not now; but given the circumstances I voted "Bring up Cook as a Starter and move Bard to Closer". I think this is the best option.

If Cook shits the bed send Padilla. if Padilla shits the bed send Miller. If Miller shits the bed send someone from AAA. There's no more, we decideded not to bring a SP.

We do not know if Bard CAN'T close until he does it. He could also GROW into it and thrives. He's a dominating reliever who been used to nothing but stressful innings. He has to be given a chance first before being written off.

I do like Uehara. He has closer potential too.

I wanted Uehara as soon as Texas begain shopping him. I have no idea why we didn't get somebody like him in the pen.

Well' date=' it's been a week since Bailey's been hurt and no moves thus far[/quote']

A whole week??? OMG!!!

This is fabrication. It's been widely reported by credible sources that the one who began the push to become a starter was Bard himself' date=' and no mention of him wanting to close has ever been made.[/quote']

Well. This is what I have "read"..

I did not vote.

I say.....DO NOTHING NOW!

The need right now is for Bard to close. It's a different situation from spring training.

I'm sure Bard, being a team player :), will be amenable to closing if asked--until Bailey returns.

If Bard doesn't close, I think they will take a hit.

This is not a "hit." This is "give up on starting for the rest of your career." If he goes back to the closer's role now, it's for good.

Do nothing is a choice.

Seems like the option I chose will win. Unfourtunatly it won't happen since Bard wants to start. I wonder if Aceves wants to start at some point, will he start as well? Or how does it work in this club?

How it works is Bard has a higher ceiling as a starter than Aceves. Until he fails, there's little reason to move him back to the pen.

After Cook's minor league shutout today, I think he should be promoted ASAP.

Oh God please lets not hear from Tito and Schill, two guys dripping in vested interest in seeing this team fail.

We must stop these experiments. The ship will sink if we continue doing that. Send Bard to closer. And let the others compete for the 5th.

Bard won't be the closer and he shouldn't be. You are going to screw him up royally to send him to the closers spot at this point and for what? Is there any evidence that he would be a successful closer.....No!

Padilla at least has good stuff and he is certifiably uncaring. If he is sound he will make his pitches....Aceves problem is not in his arm. It is between his ears and I think Bard has a similar issue at least as far as closing would be concerned. Padilla just does not give a damn. He will make his pitches. Sox should make him the closer....possibly Morales but I would prefer Padilla.

Padilla, Aceves, Bard, Morales are not closers.

I said that Bard is not ready to close, at least not now, but he is the most likely "closer" from our poll, and given our circumstances he should take that role. There's no more jung. We decided not to bring a SP and let walk Papelbon. These experiments are taxing mentally the entire team.

If they want to keep making experiments, like putting Morales or Padilla as closers, fine, but do not be surprised if we keep blowing "won games".

It's an open audition right now, and Morales has made the strongest case thus far. Go with the hot hand.
