How do you grade an offeseason in a vacuum?

 

I don't care about offseasons. We won the offseason last year. Fat lot of good it did us.

 

Judging an offseason on its own merits is probably one of the most useless things a baseball fan -- a rather notably useless fellow to begin with -- could possibly waste time on.

How could I reasonably give this off season an A? You must have a pretty low opinion of me. Regardless, I'd realistically give it a C. So, you were wrong in context.

It's a partial grade, a progress report. That's what happens in the real world. People get feedback along the way. Bosses don't wait until a year long project is finished before giving feedback. We comment on player's slow starts or fast starts all the time even though their final stats look very different. The local papers post partial report cards in every sport for the Boston teams. I am surprised that grading a GM's offseason moves seems so novel to people when we debate their each and every move all the time.
