I was asking a question, because you are always challenging Fred's fandom. Can't you be asked a question without this garbage ^ asshat.

Well madame queen, my point of contention with Fred has alwaysbeen as follows: don't call lifelong Sox fans polyannas, when you didn't become a fan yourself until the rise of pink hat nation.

If someone is a Sox fan in Antartica, good for them. It's probably harder to get NESN up there.

Also, the last time I worse an ass as a hat, it was of a nice booty chick and completely delightful. I've also worn boobs as sunglasses. They really kept me from squinting!

You live in CA. Why would I care if you're a Lakers/Raiders/Sparks fan?

As long as you're not a Bruin, I have no problems with you.

Where the hell did you get Sparks from? I have no clue about the WPBL and please be clear about which Bruin you're talking about. If it's the Boston one, no, I root for the Ducks. UCLA Bruins? Never cared for them, not SC for that matter. Believe it or not, in college football my team is NAVY and haven't had a college basketball team since Bobby Knight left Indiana over a decade ago. There, that ought to fill things in nicely.

It gets old after awhile 700 but I am used to it by now. I think this is one of two guys on this board who once insisted I wasn't a Red Sox fans but a Mets, or a Giants or a Dodger fan. Then maybe it was someone else along with RSFFL. The guy has a hard time accepting the idea of a convert, though history as shown that it is converts to any cause who become the most rabid, ardent and passionate of them all. Apparently, he never heard of Saul of Tarsas, Martin Luther or Ronald Reagan.

I do not doubt MVP's loyalty to the Red Sox at all, but I wonder if he walks the floor at night when the team loses, refuses to eat because the team just blew a game, afraid to watch part of the game for fear something might go wrong, doesn't want to talk to anyone after a team defeat. Probably not. He has been a fan for a long longer than I have and kuddos to him but I suspect that compared to my passion for the team his would most likely be compared to a carrot.

Posted
Fred, you are asking for MVP not to question your loyalty while you question his by "comparing it to yours". That's hypocritical. Not trying to push your buttons here, but letting you know that if you get a strong response from MVP, you had it coming.

Yes, I expect a strong response from him and welcome it. He has a right to do that after what I wrote. I just want this Pink Hat s*** to stop and he has to stop referring to me as that type of fan. He's probably the only on this board who thinks of me as such. I know damn well you don't. I figure comparing his passion to mine as one from ardent to carrot would get a reaction. I can assure you when he stops with the pink hat crap I will cease and desist with the carrot comparison. I mean you certainly must be aware that he has referred to me as a pink hat on numerous occasions and I never got my Italian really up. This time I did.

Sparks was a joke. No reason to take offense. I'm a USC fan, so that should explain the second half of your post.

If you stop disparaging others as polyannas, I'll never mention pinkhat again. If you had never talked down to other fans, I never would have said anything because I just don't really care that much.

It's a deal MVP----I will do my damndest not to use pollyanna on this board again---I''ll save it for those other two boards I post on. I just hate that term pink hat. Yes, I know some of them; we have them out here and two of them even told me that it might be hard to root for the Red Sox this year because of last season. You can guess what I told them they could do with themselves. If I had become a fan in, say, 2005, there would be ample ammo for a pink hat accusation because we got a lot of "new" fans that year; I came on the latter part of 2000 and there was no indication whatever that we'd be winners in four years. I even told Linda that I really have taken to the Red Sox but it looks like I might have hitched my wagon to a loser. I had no clue what was coming.

They've had enough high picks over the years, it's about freaking time.

I don't think they'll sustain it, but that's a good talented team now.

Posted
They are on a 5 game losing streak right now.

well its still a young season, i for one am rooting for them. they have some core young players. Strassburg and his command just pure brilliance. they have got Gio Lanahan and bullpen has some decent depth..

and Harper is just 19.. their starting pitchers are doing a pretty decent job of going 6 innings.

would be an outstretch but if they can get youngsters pull thru some key games and win they might win the NL east.

I'm not saying they will win the World Series. they will just be an interesting team for a few years.

The Nats have the best record in baseball. A Washington team will be in the post season for the first time since the 1930's. They have a lot of young studs. Yet they are 8th out of 16 in team attendance, trailing the Phillies, Cardinals, Brewers, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants and the last place Rockies. Their fans ain't acting like DC is a large market.

Baseball is a hard sell in DC. Remember the Nats ball park is only 35 miles from Camden Yards. So the fan base is split. Most DC residents are from someplace else. Typically, baseball fans have loyalties to their hometown teams and about half are AL fans and most of these, if they aren't Os fans, root for the Yankees or Red Sox. For this reason I think the Nats are making a huge mistake with Strasburg. They need to get to the World series to establish themselves more firmly in the Washington market.

Washington has another problem. The Metro virtually shuts down at 10 pm.

It takes time to build a new fan base. Over the next 10 yrs we will start hearing about the split O's/Nats fans and if they sustain this run, they will sell out. That being said, their park isnt known as a good one, so maybe the need to wait another 10 yrs to grow the franchise and get a new one

If you build a winner they will come.

You would think that to be true but the Washington baseball market is tricky. I lived in DC for over twenty years before moving to Northern Maryland. There are so many structural and systemic problems, I have my doubts. I think the NATS will be another Rays type franchise when it comes to drawing power.

also, speaking of Edwin Jackson, he is showing that he can now avoid the bats a little (or he regressed to the mean in terms of BABIP), upped the K's and kept his BB level low. He should be looking at a nice pay day this offseason and he has shown he can do this in the AL as well. He's gonna be an option for you guys

Jackson has been missing bats for years. Annually, his swinging strike rate has been well above league average; however, his K/9 rate before this year was around 7.0. This year, he has been about 8.0 which means he may have finally figured out how to finish off batters, even if they are NL hitters.

The big problem with Jackson is the Scott Boras factor. He will once again try to pass Jackson off as a #1 which will be hard since he has basically pitched out of the #4 spot with the Nationals. They have some tough starters, but still Jackson has been a middle of the rotation guy his whole career and still is.

I'd like to see him signed, but not with Beckett's money.

Please someone more familiar with the area correct me if I am wrong but isn't one of the problems for baseball in DC the combination of the Redskins owning the place and the near proximity of so many other baseball teams that lay claim to some segment of the fan base for baseball?

Interesting though that this year, even the O's have had trouble drawing even having a great season. So given that is this more an issue of pro football really sort of dominating the local sports scene leaving the leftovers for baseball?

I am just grabbing at straws here hoping to draw out a comment from someone more familiar with the area.
