I doubt he clubs over 20. But having 50 doubles and 15 triples isnt out of the equation

I'm not going to be disappointed in that.

20/20 is more realistic. But 30/30 isn't far fetch. Considering that 21 of the 32 were post break.

1) Red Sox will end up in top 5 in offense.

Agree

2) Pedroia hits 20 or more HRs

Agree

3) Crawford and Ellsbury crack 35+ SB

Possible. I think Ellsbury will, but it depends if CC stays healthy and gets comfortable on the base paths.

4) Ellsbury has another 30/30 season

Possible. I see a dropoff in Ellsbury's power numbers, although I think his speed will be there.

5) A-God hits 30 or more HRs

Agree

6) Red Sox make the wildcard with about 95-100 wins.

I think they can make the wildcard, but I see them with 90-95 wins.

7) Red Sox score 830+ runs on the season.

Possible.

8) Carl Crawford has a comeback season and the haters will say nothing until 2013

Hopefully.

9) Salty improves on offense and dramatically on defense

Hopefully.

10) Youk improves in nearly every offensive category

Agree, if he is healthy.

11) Bailey gets more saves than Papelbon You heard it here first.

That would be awesome.

12) Bailey has less than a 3.0 ERA

Possible.

13) Sweeney, Punto, Jackson all have bad seasons. Talksox calls for their heads before June.

I believe Sweeney and Punto will be decent backups, but not everyday starters. Jackson?

14) Red Sox pitching ends up in top 10

This is a question mark. Come back to me on this when Spring Training is over.

15) Red Sox lead the division in the month of April.

Possible, but it is hard to tell.

Crawford does not bat lower than 2nd.

One of the top 3 starters goes on the DL.

Bard wins 15 games as a starter.

Melancon becomes closer when Bailey goes on DL.

Iglesias is the regular SS the 2nd half.

Youks comes back and plays a decent 3B the 1st half.

Middlebrooks called up after the all-star break.

CC switches to RF. Cody becomes full-time LFder.

The Red Sox make the playoffs as the 2nd wild card team.

And beat the Angels, naturally, the first playoff series. :)

1) Red Sox will end up in top 5 in offense.

Red Sox end up scoring 1200 runs, but fail to play .500 ball as the rotation of Cook-Miller-Padilla-Germano-Maine are forced to start most games due to injuries to our other SP

2) Pedroia hits 20 or more HRs

Pedroia does indeed show up at camp looking like Dolph Lundgren and receives multiple movie offers. He leaves baseball.

3) Crawford and Ellsbury crack 35+ SB

Ellsbury assumes the role of team enforcer and beats Crawford viciously about the head and neck for his failure to answer the phone.

4) Ellsbury has another 30/30 season

Ellsbury has a 40/40 season and then tests positive for steroids. In retrospect, Valentine says he should have seen this coming, given the fact that Ellsbury shows up at camp looking like a gorilla.

5) A-God hits 30 or more HRs

A-God hits 30 HRs, but its for the Yankees, to whom he was traded for Burnett. Cherington tells fans that the team needed to get in budget and also needed a SP.

6) Red Sox make the wildcard with about 95-100 wins.

Red Sox make the playoffs with 40 wins. Selig, in a nod to the big market teams, allow for 20 wild cards to play in October.

7) Red Sox score 830+ runs on the season.

Red Sox get 830 runs before the trading deadline, but find themselves in fourth place.

8) Carl Crawford has a comeback season and the haters will say nothing until 2013

Carl Crawford does indeed have a comeback season. The Tampa fans welcome him back on the team.

9) Salty improves on offense and dramatically on defense

Salty is stellar on offense and defense, but Lucchino rehires Varitek to take of as the starting catcher by July, noting that he "calls a great game" and "isn't ready to retire".

10) Youk improves in nearly every offensive category

Youkilis shows up at camp weighing 300 lbs and, in an attempt to look more like Prince Fielder, actually changes races. It works. Even his numbers look like Fielder's.

11) Bailey gets more saves than Papelbon You heard it here first.

After learning his dance moves after consulting with Papelbon's personal shaman, Bailey's numbers are identical to Papelbon's numbers in 2012.

12) Bailey has less than a 3.0 ERA

Bailey has an ERA of under 1 by July, but is replaced by Tim Wakefield in the closer role so that Wakefield can pursue his 200th win without having to throw too many innings.

13) Sweeney, Punto, Jackson all have bad seasons. Talksox calls for their heads before June.

Sweeney, Punto, and Jackson are 1-2-3 in the AL in OPS, but TalkSox calls for their heads because they are too hard to make up nicknames for.

14) Red Sox pitching ends up in top 10

Red Sox pitching ends up in the top 14 in the league.

15) Red Sox lead the division in the month of April.

The Red Sox are as close to leading the division on Jan 31 as they will be all season.

ok

2) Pedroia hits 20 or more HRs

ok

3) Crawford and Ellsbury crack 35+ SB

not a chance

4) Ellsbury has another 30/30 season

no way

5) A-God hits 30 or more HRs

yup

6) Red Sox make the wildcard with about 95-100 wins.

hahaha...try 85-87

7) Red Sox score 830+ runs on the season.

I'll but that

8) Carl Crawford has a comeback season and the haters will say nothing until 2013

Good luck with that one

9) Salty improves on offense and dramatically on defense

he should improve somewhat offensively. Defensively? too vague.

10) Youk improves in nearly every offensive category

Since he sucked last year, he probably will. At least until he breaks down for good in June.

11) Bailey gets more saves than Papelbon You heard it here first.

Yikes!!

12) Bailey has less than a 3.0 ERA

No way.

13) Sweeney, Punto, Jackson all have bad seasons. Talksox calls for their heads before June.

Take it to the bank!

14) Red Sox pitching ends up in top 10

Laughable

15) Red Sox lead the division in the month of April.

What's it matter?

Bailey has a career ERA of 2.07. How is it impossible for him to have a sub-3 ERA this year?

Also, if the pitching stays healthy, how is it impossible for them to place top-10 in ERA?

The laughable thing is to think neither of those are possible.

Thank you. I also don't find the Bailey getting more saves than Papelbon that bad either.

Thank you Pumpsie for providing such quality discussion. You're on a whole other level. You should just leave because we can't keep up with your greatness.

I understand.

Also why is there no chance in Ellsbury and Crawford cracking 35+ SB?

How much did Crawford run last year? In general, I don't think this franchise is overly enamored with the stolen base.

Nope, sorry, other way around.

How much did he get on base? If you don't get on base you can't steal. I predicted he'll have a comeback season because a player of his caliber most likely won't repeat the same performance. I never said this franchise is made to steal. Crawford and Ellsbury in the past have had seasons with a lot of stolen bases. I don't see why they can't repeat.

This all started with Gom but I like the idea. Post your predictions here.

1)Jon Lester finishes in top 5 of the Cy Young race-winning more votes than CC Sabathia and Verlander.

2) Dustin Pedroia's power dips, but his OBP rises to .410.

3) Aviles, Punto and Iglesias all have mediocre seasons at SS, and everyone who didn't like Scutaro complains about the trade to move him.

4) Ryan Sweeney and Cody Ross both have career years in the OF.

5) Crawford doesn't return to the lineup until May.

6) Ortiz has a great April offensively, but falls apart in the summer.

7) Lavarnway wins Red Sox rookie of the year with 15 HR in 60 games.

8) Adrian Gonzalez leads the league in RBIs... and double plays.

9) Saltalamacchia is DFAed.... and no team claims him.

10) When Palodios goes to a Red Sox game in April, he throws a brick through the window of the Popeye's Chicken on Brookline Ave.

With the Astros, Jed Lowrie will win NL MVP...of my heart.

I see Crawford bouncing back and barely losing out to Adam Dunn for the comeback player of the year award.

I was surprised to see MLB TV lead a story tonite about Crawford's wrist injury--as if it were some breaking news. Cripes, it's been known for several weeks. Reddick had the same injury, and says he might miss a week or two. It ain't that serious--but those MLB guys are already hammering the nails in the coffin.
