So that's why it's taking forever to do the redraft...

Also, I have a lot of respect for iortiz. His posts make more sense than a lot of other people's on here and English isn't his first language. I'm just waiting for the day he doesn't ditto an A700 talking point.

We disagree on several players and prospective moves, but he does it without being insulting or trying to prove me wrong, so people don't notice. On the big issues like business accountability etc. we have been in agreement, and we have been right in every instance, not some, not most, but every instance. Iortiz is too humble to tell you that.

Hell' date=' this movie should be called "The pessimist 3-Head Monster vs Sugarcoaters legion in Theo's fantasy land part 1" or something hahahaha [/quote']I like this. Soon I expect some posters will be migrating to Cubs boards to defend the honor of the Former Boy Wonder, because the press does not seem to be carrying his water in Chicago.

BTW I was just kidding around guys, VA commenced the joke (I saw her post that way), so... not big deal.

EDIT: For the record, I didn't know that tne word sugarcoater was an insult, I thought it was more like optimistic person or something. My bad.

Exactly.

As I said once, this board has great posters that have a lot of knowladge about the game and stats like E1, Paladois, SoxSynth among a lot others.

But I often like how SCM33, A700, TedW101, ORS, Jung, etc see the game between lines, beyond the stats...

BTW MVP78, the respect is mutual...yesterday, I deleted a post in regard your comment (Rethinking, my post was not necessary), I think that you just were joking, so... I think we can move on guys. Peace!

They were awful to watch all year last year, and a solid 2 months this season, but whatever I can see your point.

I think Paps has to stay, hes a proven big game pitcher in this market. After this year we dont ever have to hear about Daniel Bard closing again, not after a 2-9 record as a setup man.

I also would not mind seeing Ortiz back either, as long as the deal is team friendly.

Drew, Crawford, Reddick, Lowrie, Scutaro, Varitek, Bedard, Lackey, Wakefield, DiceK, Albers, Bowden, Miller, Wheeler, Jenks, Mcdonald.....

They all need to go. These guys are either hurt too often, too old, dead weight, not good enough or are just not a fit for Boston. I am hesitant to add Bard to that list.

The entire bullpen, minus Papelbon and MAYBE Bard needs to be once again blown up, dismantled and put back together. This is a reoccurring theme with Theo's bullpens.

Beckett, Buccholz and Lester are 1,2 and 3. Aceves can be your number 4 or 5. Find another back of the rotation guy to replace Lackey/Wakefield/bedard/DiceK. Maybe they should give Doubront the starts. Can he really be much worse than Lackey?

If they Sox find ways to get rid of Crawford/Lackey, the money they would be saving with the departures of Drew and DiceK (next year) would be a wash considering we will be paying a HUGE chunk of both Lackey and Crawfords contracts. LF and RF will take a hit. Maybe Lavarnaway learns LF (hell, Reggie Jefferson, Jose Canseco, Wil Cordero, Manny Ramirez, Brian Daubach, Kevin Millar, Eric Hinske, Kevin Youkilis all did it for a time period.) and Kalish plays RF while Ortiz stays with the team and DH's. Once again, we need to find a SS. Scutaro was nice, but we need to shake this entire thing up. Find another SS, there has got to be a long term solution out there, somewhere.

They pretty much got rid of everyone I mentioned minus DiceK, Lackey and Crawford (who were obviously reaches).....

The only problem is, they added nobody. They only backfilled spots that they already had pretty damn good players at (ie: Papelbon). How much better or worse is this team next year. Is is addition by subtraction, or are we in for a long year of third place?

.....and Ortiz, god how that blew up.......his deal wont be team friendly at all!

I have never understood all this Crawford hate. Yes, the Sox may have payed too much for the guy. Yes, he had, for the most part, a dismal 2011. Yes, the press made a mountain out of a mole hill with the BV phone call "story".

Big f***ing deal! Get the f*** over it. This guy is a premier talent. The wrist injury will slow him down at the beginning of 2012 but there is no reason to believe that he has "lost a step" or has forgotten how to play the game of baseball.

I expect him to put up career average numbers this year and that the Crow population in Red Sox Nation will see a sudden and dramatic decline.

I didn't notice the Reggie Jefferson remark the first time around. Loved that guy!

Its not Crawford that is the problem. I too expect a comeback year for him. Its his contract. Even at career averages, he is overpaid.

And thats on our previous GM, not Crawford.

His contract is not a valid reason to dislike Crawford.

Full agreement on that 305 and the hope here is that he mends well and gets off to a good start, has a solid season and shuts everyone up. The fact is we are a helluva lot better team if we have the Crawford circa 2010 than the one we had last season. The fear is that he might press very badly and have another sub-par season and that would really get the wolves out in force. He needs to have a solid season for his sake, the team's and the fans. I'm betting he does just that.

I don't know if anyone else has gone back into the stats to look at player values recently. There hasn't been much talk about that kind of stuff here.

I've been on fangraphs and B-R a few times. It's remarkable when you look back to see how good Crawford was for most of the 2000s at such a young age. He's a guy who was on pace for a HOF career prior to 2011.

People will very quickly forget his 2011 season if he comes back to the form he was prior to that. He was a dangerous player in every area of the game. A productive Crawford would be a HUGE boost to the 2012 club.

I enjoyed watching CC play for TB, so I liked him when he came to Boston. I thought the salary was ridiculous and was annoyed at TE for spending so much for a negative reason. I figured he was embarrassed at the number of SB CC had against Boston and preferred that he play for Boston rather than against them.

Its that time again, get your popcorn!!!

Sooo, were a month in.....

Beckett and Youkilis are both hurt, shocker.....I wanted both guys packing their bags in the off-season.

Last night, we have a guy who can't get a bunt down with no outs, a left fielder that cant catch flyballs (who also strikes out about as much he misplays balls in the OF, which is often), a first baseman who is 0 for his last 17 and has provided zero to no power since the all star break last year and Bard..who instead of picking up his teammates.....grooves pitch after pitch in the 6th inning to lineup which is a disgraceful embarrassment by major league standards. Oakland's #3 hitter is Josh Reddick...enough said.

Oh yeah, and they still have a catcher who cant hit or play defense.....and two of the pitchers in the rotation (Beckett and Bard) are SIGNIFICANTLY worse off when he is behind the plate. The bullpen still sucks and there is little they can do at this point to improve them.

The best news about the Redsox of late, is that you can actually buy tickets on Redsox.com for face value. They are practically giving them away now.......the sellout streak is such a fraud, and its about time people stopped showing up.

They are in the cupcake part of their schedule and they are still 2 games under .500 and just lost 2 outta 3 to a terrible Oakland team.

This group of players is more unlikable than last years. The 2001 (yes, 2001) Redsox team is the only team Ive disliked more to this point (the individual players, not the team/organization).

Still reactionary? When is it not considered reactionary....the end of the season?

Yes we know. You mind changing the record?

Having said that, I hate to do it, but I agree with Mazz. I've actually said it a few times, but the 2011-2012 offseason reminded me 100% of the 2009-2010 offseason.

Minor moves.

Waiting for money to move.

Bridge year.

With the 2nd WC, can this team get healthy, click, and make a run at a WS title? Absolutely.

If they can sneak into the 2nd WC slot, the team in October looks 100% different than the team in May.

The bullpen will have Bard, Bailey, Aceves, Morales, Hill, Melancon/Wilson, and Albers. That's a bullpen that can get you through October, and that's without any trading deadline bolstering.

The rotation will have Lester, Beckett, a hopefully revived Buchholz, and Doubront. I'll take those 4 in a PS match up with the offense we have.

Speaking of the offense, lets not forget that Gonzo isn't a .697 OPS guy, Pedroia will be a lot closer to a .900 OPS than a .775 OPS. And we will have Crawford and Ellsbury coming back.

I'm not saying this season is a sure thing. Far from it. But if they can manage to stay within striking distance, they can make a lot of noise in the 2nd half.

And if they don't? I expect some big moves this offseason. Like a FA signing of Cole Hamels.

Nope. Forums are for discussion and I presented an opinion I believe. If you dont like it or dont agree, then ignore it. Resist the urge to hit the reply button. I know you have it in you.

The talent is here. We just need to make due with what we have which is possible considering that the rays and Yankees have issues too. Believe it or not we aren't the only team with problems.

Especially since Rivera just got carted off the field with a right leg injury. Couldn't put any weight on it.

I would guess a hammy tear.
