I think he is merely pointing out that Varitek is in a slump. And I don't blame him that he was talking about Reddick only having 100 AB's' date=' the people around here were going insane at that time about how great Reddick is. He had a period where he was basically the 2nd coming of Christ on this board...[/quote']

I thought Drew was the second coming of Christ? I mean, look at the signs...he plays like a torture survivor with gaping holes in his hands and feet, every time he comes up to bat the entire crowd prays to God, and he consistently turns sweat into whine.

I will sometime this season get you to say Salty is better and a good catcher. It will be forever sig'd

My alternative was VMart. I think I have a better case :D.

Salty has been good, I was wrong....I would still rather have had Vmart, but Salty is doing just fine.

I was wrong about the kid.

I have said from the beginning that we should have had them both. It would have hurt the Yankees probably more than it would have helped us. Cervelli and Posada would have been a disaster. Comparisons of Salty to Martin mean nothing to me. They should be wearing the same uniform IMO.

Both deals likely to end in disasters. Carl still in his prime to earn some his pay. Werth is hopeless.

But I said before, should just sign Holliday over Lackey/Cameron/Scoot and be on the market for Lee last year.

Agreed...

He better start producing in the playoffs, he is making around 15 MUSD this year as well, isn't he?, so... Show me the damn performance according to the amount of money you are already making!

This is very true. I'm pretty sure people have also been killed in Drew's name(especially this year).

Crawford and Lackey are the two best examples going of how this franchise has outsmarted itself.
Which big money long term deals have worked out for Theo?

Isn't that kinda the point? If you're not good at something, why keep doing it? Play to your strengths, not your weaknesses.

Beckett?
He wasn't a Theo FA signing. He did the extension, but not the original trade and signing.

Theo has almost a perfect record of failure with regard to big FA signings.

I believe that having around guys like A-God, Papi, Youk, etc. helped him a lot to improve his offense.

Today he is a totally different player than in the beginning of the season, good for him and for the team.

He's also better defensively in all categories than VMart. The only thing Vmart has on Salty defensively is that his hands are a little softer.

Yup!

He has shown some cannon as well, lack that we had last year with VMart and Tek.

He may be the worst GM in this regard. What other GM has thrown away more money on FA failures?

Well, A-God has been and will be an excellent piece, but even I would know that he is a guaranty for that amount of money, so... I don't know whether give him some credit on that or not, hehehe.

That was a great game. Also I sat in the field box because some people left/never showed up. Good stuff.

It looks like something a grand wizard may have doodled on his home work in middle school.

This was hilarious.

hahahahaha.

Pretty sure most people have no idea what this means, I remember taco night though.

I will never forget.

So did anyone actually think Crawford was going to come through there?

Anyone?

Yeah pretty much. What a total freaking epic waste of money.

Guess his walkoffs were my imagination then?

Welcome to the Red Sox, Erik Bedard. That's how we run this s***.

But seriously, I watched the replay again this morning of the walkoff, and noticed that Bedard was one of the most amped people out on the field. Pretty cool to see for a new guy. He was way more excited than I've ever seen Eeyore Drew after a walkoff.

And damn. Go easy on Crawford, the guy has 6.5 years before we can call him a failure. I'm sure all of you were singing this same tune last season when Beckett was having a bad year, calling him a failure in his extension, and now he's posting a 2.20 ERA in August. You still going to call him a failure? Look at Crawford's track record. Does this season look like a trend or an aberration for him? I know he's been awful this year, but before we dog him, lets give him more than 350 of his probable 4,500 PA to prove his worth. Judging Crawford's contract at this point is the equivalent of judging Pedroia's season after his first 50 AB.

Hopefully, he will continue to be outstanding, but every other The FA signing has far underperformed his contract or been a complete bust. His record is terrible.

That's because Drew is usually in the clubhouse getting treatment for one of his numerous ailments.

Great post. I'd also like to add that lots of people wanted Ortiz to go after his 2010 April. How'd that work out?
