OK. Chime in. One of those brilliant scribes at the Globe has proposed a Lackey for Zito deal. For all the obvious reasons.

Epstein would probably buy into this deal, but I don't think the Giants would--Lackey's elbow has become suspect. At least that's what the article says. Something is certainly suspect about Lackey.

I don't know. The last time I looked, Zito was about 3 Ks per nine, but he would be returning to the pitching coach from his Oakland days. But, can he possibly be effective in the AL east?

I hope they stick with Lackey. I see more chance for improvement.

I proposed this idea 2 months ago. I think it would be nice. I just don't want Lackey on our team.

However, there is probably 2% chance of this happening. :(

I'm sure Epstein would like the deal but there's no way in hell that the Giants will trade for a 32 year old with a huge contract who needs Tommy John. At least Zito will be able to pitch even if he doesn't do well.

Just heard Finn and KP Dupont talking about Lackey. Dupont says Lackey looked out of shape when he pulled up at 2b after hitting a double a couple of starts ago. He also said he thought a number of other $$ Red Sox also looked out of shape. Well, I said that after their terrible start. And it goes back to the manager, who does not run a tight ship--to put it mildly. In some ways, this club resembles the country club days of Tom Yawkey--with more talent.

Right because peanuts will contribute so much to the team.

More so than Lackey, I'd personally settle for some chewed bubble gum and some printer paper.

You figure Zito's old pitching coach at Oakland is now in Boston. Plus another left handed starter is a premium in the AL east. But I don't think the Giants would do it.

The Red Sox would settle for Lackey and his contract turning to angel dust.

But unlike Lackey' date=' peanuts are delicious. And deliciousness is always a welcome contribution.[/quote']

Bingo!

Why would SF do it?

Zito hasnt lived up to his contract, but hes been at least a #3 at times in SF.

Lackey shouldnt even be on a MLB roster right now.

BTW, Zito is owed 19 MILLION DOLLARS next year.....and 20 MILLION DOLLARS the year after.

Its a terrible trade for both teams as Zito would most likely be worse than he is in the NL and is owed MORE money.

I have seen Zito pitch quite a bit since I live in the Bay area. Back in the day he was awesome to watch, he still at times has a crazy good curveball but he is nowhere near the pitcher he used to be years ago before crossing the Bay. I do not think we will see this trade even though I'm pretty fed up with Lackey..

Lackey seems to have an elbow problem which the Red Sox were warned about by at least one doctor, according to the Globe, when they signed him.

I don't know what Zito's problem is. But in the steroid/big money era, there have been frequent spikes in performance in contract years followed by declines after the big contract has been procured.

Part of that may be conditioning, part of it mental. Players bust their tail in contract years, then slack off after they land the big fish. What was CCs problem with his slow start? Was it conditioning, or pressing?

I'm all for it... We have nothing to lose. Maybe Zito is at least a funny guy. Lackey lacks just about everything a team could hope for. Boring...... Not "WINNING!" Bye John.. Don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out. Oh, and leave your uniform.

Zito has thrown three good starts in a row since coming off the DL. Lackey is off-again, on-again.

Today's start may have kept Lackey out of the BP.

We don't need Zito. He's past his prime. You guys realize that we have Buchholz and Lester on the DL, right? When those two come back, we'll really dominate. The Sox don't need to make any moves at the break.

The Phillies have a ton of lhd pitchers--I count at least 4--maybe more--2 top starters. You don't think they are thinking about the Yankees and the Red Sox? Lackey is raw meat in Yankee Stadium.

Speaking of Lackey, I saw many of the Red Sox players at Remy's after the game on Friday. It was the night before Lackey's start and he was throwing back beers like a frat boy. Not the most encouraging thing to see, although he did have a rare good start the next day.
