I never said that. Im just saying' date=' when the fans vote, it goes by popularity. Their good be a piece of s*** on the Yankees, literally (which all of them are) and that s*** would get picked for the all star game<_>

Okay, but doesn't that clash with the fact that Teixeira didn't get voted in?

Yes, but Jeter and Gonzalez got picked over Teixera. They are more popular then Mark. But there definetly not better this year.

Gonzalez is the second best hitter in the AL this year. What in the world are you talking about?

To make the point of the AllStar votes being a popularity contest would be pointing out Jeter and A-Rod, neither of them deserved a spot. Glad they aren't playing in the game.

Fixed. He is batting .355 and is above Reyes, even he hasn't played lately; regardless he is leading several departments as RBIs (77 thus far).

It's Jose Bautista and it's not an argument. If you're looking at BA and RBI, you're looking in the wrong place.

Well, All will depend on what you consider to label "the best/the most complete hitter", since you have a lot of departments in order to rate a hitter and mostly when the numbers are close between 2 beasts.

You said, Bautista is the best hitter in the AL this season. He is definitely the best slugger in all baseball, but the most complete hitter in all baseball? let me see...

Bautista leads OPS, OBP, SLG and HR in all baseball (power and discipline AB here). BA? he is 3rd. 2B and HITS? he is not even in the top 20 in all baseball.

on the other hand...

Gonzales leads BA, RBIs, 2B and HITS in all baseball. OPS & SLG? he is 3rd (a beast as a slugger too) and at OBP he is 5th in all baseball ("decent" discipline AB ).

Both are beasts, no doubt about it... But Adrian has been a more complete hitter than Bautista this season in my opinion. He leads 4 departments, he is 3rd in two and 5th in other.

Bautista has fewer hits because he walks an assload. He still has a .330 BA. His OPS is over .100 points higher than anyone else in the AL. An argument based primarily on the counting stat of hits and semantics is hardly an argument. I love Gonzo, but Bautista has been unreal this year.

But it seems like we agree to disagree, so we can just move on.

Bautista is better than Gonzo right now. His OPS+ is an incredible 212, Gonzo is at 171, which is significantly lower (This stat is ballpark adjusted as well, iirc).

RBIs is a very teammate dependent stat, and is pretty much obsolete for argumentative purposes. So is BA, OBP is much better, and Bautista has a better OBP than Gonzo.

I'm sorry, but Bautista is superior to all other hitters right now, in every way possible. Gonzo might be the MVP of the league, because he's the best player on an elite team, something Bautista is not, but he certainly isn't a better hitter right now.

Jose Bautista is the best player in all of baseball right now. No question. AdGon has been solid, but RBI's and runs are a team stat. Bautista is playing like Bonds around the turn of the millenium, yet he isnt in a steroid scandal...yet.

I'm glad that Youk finally got in. He really deserved it. But it still will be screwed up with no Sabathia, Lester, Pedroia, Texeira. If you ask me, Bautista is better than Gonzalez only because of his consistency. Gonzalez goes in slumps and droughts of home runs and doubles.

Beckett cleared to pitch in All-Star Game

By Nicole Auerbach, Globe Correspondent

Right-hander Josh Beckett threw a side session this morning, and since then, he's been cleared to pitch in the All-Star Game in Phoenix on Tuesday.

The Red Sox have been keeping an eye on Beckett ever since he left Friday's game after five innings due to a mildly hyperextended left knee.

In other injured pitcher news, Clay Buchholz did not throw a side today, but he wasn't scheduled to. Buchholz is dealing with a lower back strain, and he's been on the disabled list retroactive to June 17.

He's just better, there's really no because about it, Bautista is on his own planet. Consistency is not the right word, he's better only because he's better, is more appropriate. This isn't directed at anyone specifically, but if you think it's even close, you are a homer.

well, if BATTING AVERAGE (BA) is not the main stat (not the only, but the main) and is not a solid argument in order to rate a HITTER, I don't know what it is.

As I said, Bautista is the best slugger in the majors, but Adrian has been a more complete hitter this season thus far, in my opinion.

Anyway, I can't wait watch 'em hitting back to back in the ASG.

I'm pulling for the AL big time. The Sox will need the home field advantage. They can't afford to lose Ortiz bat for 4 games. We'd better get another bat e.g. Beltran, Reyes to make up for losing Ortiz for 3-4 games.

Pedroia belongs on any all-star team, any year.

Cano hits a 472 ft HR in the HR hitting contest. Cano? What's in the Yankees' gatorade this year?

He did say his father was his pitcher. Had to have some effect.
