Offensively. Martin can play circles around him behind the dish' date=' and the rag tag pitching staff being 4th in the AL in ERA should tell you all you need to know.[/quote']The Salty is better than Martin crowd kill me. Salty's upside is a bad year for Martin.

I think 2 people thought you didn't look like him. It was in good humor though' date=' I think I promised not to mention it again because you don't really like the comparisons, so my bad. I know I don't like my appearance to be compared to other people's (positively or negatively), so now I actually feel bad, sorry. : /[/quote']

Lmao, it's ok. It really doesn't bother me much I just don't know what in the world you guys are looking at. Feel free to call me Kevin Durant all you want I'm just going to be in denial everytime lmao.

Martin's been a league average defensive catcher since 2008. He really hasn't been all that noticeably better than Salty defensively this year.

If someone said that a good year for Salty would be a bad year for Martin before this season, I would have agreed with them. But this is the best offensive production that Salty's ever had at the major league level and while his defense is certainly blow average, it's a lot closer to average than I thought it was going to be. And if Martin keeps hitting the way he has been since April he's going to be under the Mendoza line by August.

If I'm looking at the right sabermetrics, Martin is better defensively but not by that much.

It's a lot closer than people think. Those who are claiming Martin's a good or great defensive catcher are either seeing what they want to see or basing that off his reputation 3 years ago before all the injury issues. He hasn't been the same offensively or defensively since 2008.

I think the point to be made is that an injured worn down Martin having an off year is still better than Salty. If Martin had been on the Sox with Tek as his backup, he would not have been overworked like he ha been in NY and he would have continued to play at the level at which he started the season.

The major point to be made here is that it is not a Salty vs. Martin debate, because we could have had them both. Salty would have been getting another year of seasoning in AAA ready to come up at a moments notice if Marin got injured. Getting Martin would have deprived the Yankees of a very useful piece of their team. Replacing him would not have been easy. Those who debate Salty vs. Martin are missing the point entirely.

Question:

Since the all-star game will be played in a NL park, will Papi be part of the line-up?

I'm wondering the same. It said "starting DH". MAye they've changed the rules to where the AL will have a DH in NL parks while the NL still has the Pitcher hit.

Oh and I really can't believe people have complained that Cano got picked over Pedroia. That's ridiculous homerism. Cano has been better this year and pretty much has always been the better player.

Stats pl0x.

I know you have something against Pedroia, you've always got this 'tude about him, he's overrated this, he's not that good that. Fact is, Pedroia is an elite defensive 2nd baseman with well above-average offensive skills. Pedroia has had a higher WAR in every season but one. This isn't a WAR that's put afloat simply by better play in the field either, Pedroia has almost the same career OPS+.

I change my mind, Pedroia is not only on the same level, but he is better than Cano, pretty much every stat supports that.

Not to mention he's got a slight height disadvantage :D

Hey. Anyone know when Swisher is going to release his "Hey, listen, I've spent half my salary this year on these damn Tommy Bahama shirts and now I need a reason to wear them. I thought I was a lock for the ASG, but now I'm making youtube videos and begging celebrities so tweet 'Vote for Swish' so that I can go to Anaheim" video?

I *think* they changed the rules for the ASG' date=' where DH hits in both AL and NL parks.[/quote']

Since this game is not longer only an exhibition game due the number of local games for the WS is on dispute, the NL should take advantage of the situation, and the DH shouldn't hit for the AL in my opinion; but we'll see.

Well, WAR doesn't account for height, but if it did, it wouldn't even be close. Pedroia>Cano.

Well, in this scenario the NL will be in disadvantage and as I said, since the number of games as local for the WS is in dispute, it doesn't make sense at all; why shoot yourself in the foot?

the internet voting was a joke. you could vote 25 times on mlb.com. then they sent you an email saying thank you for voting, why not vote another 25 times? That explains why the Yankees have so many players on the team. They have a lot of fanatical fans in NY who loaded the ballotbox.

Anybody ever been to a Red Sox-Yankees game in Ft Myers? Busloads of Yankee fans come in from Ft Lauderdale. hard to get a ticket gameday.

I'm glad the Yankees have Martin. He's a .219/.323/.388 hitter with average at best defense who the Yankees are going to ride like a horse because of his "intangibles".

And if Martin wasn't available, who would be the Yankees 2011 catcher?

This. Not to mention, if he wasn't getting overworked, he would likely be much more productive than he is. That's something the Red Sox could have provided, that the Yankees obviously cannot.

Oh come on, it's a shame that fans get to vote them in, but the Red Sox usually got tons of guys in there too. I remember when it used to always look like a Red Sox/Yankees vs. the NL game when the starters came out. Like 7 out of the 9 starting spots were Sox or Yankees. Manny, Ortiz, Damon, Varitek, A-Rod, Jeter, Giambi or something like that. It's not just the Yanks who do that crap.

Three punk ass Yankees have backed out of the All Star game due to injuries-- ARod' date=' Jeter and Mo.[/quote']

Jeter is playing today against TB, in fact at this point he's 1 hit from 3,000. I don't get it. He seems healthy. I heard but I'm not sure that he wanted to rest, wtf? if this is true.

So what? All 3 of them are deserving.

Pedroia should have been in the all star game. Mark Teixera didnt get picked for the all star game? Thats why is goes by popularity when people vote.

You think Texiera deserves it as much as Gonzalez?

I never said that. Im just saying, when the fans vote, it goes by popularity. Their good be a piece of s*** on the Yankees, literally (which all of them are) and that s*** would get picked for the all star game<_>
