Papi, Adrian, Ellsbury, Beckett named All-Stars

By Evan Drellich / MLB.com | 07/03/11 12:30 PM ET

BOSTON -- Four Red Sox are ticketed for the 2011 All-Star Game, including three hitters from the lineup that's scored the most runs in the Majors.

The top fan vote-getters at their position, Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and designated hitter David Ortiz were announced on Sunday as American League starters in the Midsummer Classic, set for July 12 in Phoenix. Center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury and right-hander Josh Beckett were named to the roster via player voting.

Ortiz and Gonzalez have driven in a combined 143 runs, while Ellsbury, the lone first-time All-Star in the group, has been the table-setter. This is the third selection for Beckett, whose last came in 2009; the fourth consecutive selection for Gonzalez; and the seventh for Ortiz, who was an All-Star last year as well.

And future Red Sox Carlos Beltran made the NL team.

Yankee fans voted in Cano.

I'm hoping this is a joke.... Cause Cano is better than Pedo

Considering Pedroia slumped for a full month, I don't see this as any real shame.

Youkilis is a much more difficult one to take since he has a full .100 OPS on Beltre, but I guess that one has to go to defense.

Cano is 5th among AL 2B in WAR. He doesn't deserve the nod. Even if you go purely on offense, Kendrick has a better OPS+ and wOBA. I'm glad Pedroia and Youkilis didn't make it because they could use the rest with their foot, knee and ankle issues. I wish Beckett wasn't selected because I think he may be dealing with some blister issues.

Anybody else think it's pathetic that Jeter and Martin made it along with the fact that Bochy blatantly showed bias and admitted he went for his own guys with the manager's selection?

It is funny' date=' that it seems like the worst selections this year were made by the players. Martin and Young, for example.[/quote']

I don't care what anybody else says, you don't go to the ASG if you're hitting .220. f***, Tek belongs there more than Martin.

Nice job calling him "Pedo", lolz.

Cano is more talented, Pedroia is probably overall about a wash with him.

Catchers are what they are. Look at Varitek's stat line from the first half before he went to the ASG in 2008.

.218 .299 .354 .653

Yeaaaah.

This wouldn't bother me if this stupid ASG didn't determine who gets home field advantage at the World Series. They need to make it that whoever has the better record gets home field advantage because this sucks.

If this game comes down to Jeter against someone like Hanrahan with the game on the line, I will personally find the voting records so I can strangle every jackass that voted for Jeter. He shouldn't be there, neither should Martin.

He shouldn't of been there either. Hell, I'm just happy that Salty's turned out to be the better player than Martin through the 1st half.

Hit me up when you do it. It's a good oppurtunity to beat a Yankee fan >:D

Sure thing, I'll take the little ones, like kids. I don't wanna get my ass kicked by a pack of drunken guidos who scream at players from the stands. I'm not in the best of shape.

Good thing I'm hitting up the gym ;)

That would be for the best. Hopefully Adrian, Josh, Papi, and Ells will be able to bail out the voter's retardation.

Pretty soon you'll be in better shape than Kevin Durant.

I think 2 people thought you didn't look like him. It was in good humor though, I think I promised not to mention it again because you don't really like the comparisons, so my bad. I know I don't like my appearance to be compared to other people's (positively or negatively), so now I actually feel bad, sorry. : /

Offensively. Martin can play circles around him behind the dish, and the rag tag pitching staff being 4th in the AL in ERA should tell you all you need to know.
