It does make sense medically, but it would seem that the procedure he performed is more of a patch than a true fix, meaning that he'll break down. Angels’ Haren cuts short bullpen session

 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Los Angeles Angels right-hander Dan Haren(notes) cut short a throwing session in the bullpen Wednesday after feeling discomfort in his lower back.

 

Haren is scheduled to start Saturday against the New York Yankees, but manager Mike Scioscia said before a game against the Kansas City Royals that he’s not sure whether that will happen.

 

The team plans to have Haren examined before making a decision. Scioscia said Haren was not “specific about what he was feeling. He was hurting. We don’t know to what extent.”

 

The 30-year-old Haren has been one of the American League’s top pitchers this season, going 5-2 with a 2.29 ERA in 13 games—12 of them starts. He’s among the league leaders in innings with 86 1-3, strikeouts with 74 and opponent batting average of .212.

The Yankees would be lucky if Haren misses his start, but on this road trip, if anything, they've been unlucky. In Seattle they had to face King Felix and Pineda. In three games versus Oakland they had to face their three best pitchers. In LA they have to face Weaver, and Haren is still scheduled to make his start. The Yankees offense has been very impressive on this road trip, and it has nothing to do with luck.

AJ pitched well enough to win. After the first, he looked like a different pitcher. We did enough offensively to beat a very solid pitcher today and the offense has been rolling against 3 top notch pitchers. Happy with this team right now
