Just one of those games. The Yankees hit the ball harder than the M's did that entire game, but have nothing to show for it.

Unfortunately, on the whole, they just haven't played well for over a month now. Showing their true colors, I think.

Girardi really screwed up last night's game pulling Burnett early and going to Logan et al. Terrible bullpen management.

Questionable, but hardly terrible. AJ really labored last night, and was all over the place. In the sixth inning, against Logan and Ayala, the Mariners hit one ball hard. Just more bad luck, which has been a theme over the past two games.

The last couple seasons Mo has had one or two questionable outings, and then righted himself, going back to his usual dominating appearances.

This season though, it seems like he has been questionable almost the entire time. Does anyone have stats to compare? It could just be in my head, but it really seems like he has been struggling a lot more than usual.

He has had a few shaky outings so far this year, but coming into tonight's game, his ERA (1.71) was lower than his 2010 ERA (1.80) and his 2009 ERA (1.76).

Mariano has never been good in tie situations. His 3 BSV in 16 chances is a little high for him, but he typically has a week where he blows 2 or 3, and he already had that. He blew a save vs Baltimore recently after another solid stretch. His stuff looks about as good as ever. His location betrayed him in his 3 BSV's but so be it. He is far from a problem.

In terms of Nova, he's been a rookie. His May prior to last night had been solid. He's had inconsistent command of his fastball, and last night he had no command of his fastball. And his secondary stuff isnt good enough to pitch backwards. The way he pitches, he is gonna give up the hits, but he needs to limit walks to be anything more than our 5th starter.

Very encouraged once again by Noesi. I think he can step into Aceves' abandoned role from 2009 since our GM stupidly let him walk. He comes right at hitters, is throwing harder in a relief role and has shown good offspeed stuff. I think he needs to stay in the bigs.

Discouraged once again by the offense. We scored 3 runs on homers early, are able to tie the game off Felix in the 7th then get nothing off their pen for the next 5 innings? And we have a starting 9 making well over $100 million? Really?

Jeter has had almost exactly the same BA and OBP in May and April, meaning he doesnt look like a guy primed for a breakout. Worse, he could even be primed for a dropoff, which would be devastating

Nick Swisher followed up an awful April with an abysmal May. Everyone talks about his great numbers vs lefties, well, his OPS as a RHH is under .700 and his OPS as a LHH is under .600. This is the one that hurts the most, because he's 30, in his prime, and expected to give us solid at bats from both sides. Instead, he cannot hit the f***ing ball

And Posada. Oh Posada. His May is an improvement, especially the .377OBP, but his power is gone. The only good thing about his April was that he was good for an occasional HR. But he hasnt hit one since April 14th. He's 0 for 26 as a RHH as well, meaning that he is completely useless and now platooned out when a lefty comes in. His May numbers are somewhat encouraging and his leash should be extended into the end of June. But if July 1 comes and he's still hitting under .200, continues to show a dearth of power, and furthers the idea that he's not a platoon DH, then an upgrade is necessary.

I never thought I would say this, but our offense is not championship caliber. I thought Jeter's yr last yr would push him to prepare a little harder this yr and come back in a bit better shape and maybe give one more season of Jeterian performance. But he looks more like a statue, he's lost his ability to drive the ball, and his baserunning has suffered. Sufficed to say, his resigning looks abysmal right now. And we dont have much to do about it anyway. Nunez has been a liability in the field and Pena (in AAA) cannot hit better, so my guess is that we just live with it.

In the OF and at DH, though, that is a different story. We have internal candidates who can do better. I would love to see Vasquez in the OF or at DH. The guy has hit 18 homers already in AAA and has power to all fields. The guy cannot be any worse. Hell, a .700OPS and any power at all is better than Swish at this point.

And Montero needs to start hitting again as well. His AVG is nice (.305), but that is because he's coasting off a red hot start. Once he starts hitting for power and average, he'll be up here.

And you can be sure as s*** that we'll get someone in trade this yr. My guess is Beltran, but we'll see how that works out. We cannot have 3 guys absolutely dragging ass in the lineup for long. Because 1 or 2 guys go into a slump and all of a sudden the offense is punchless.

Even if they hold on today it's still a disappointing weekend, but that comes with one important positive ... Robbie Cano looks like he might be finally coming around.

Well played game all around. Could have even scored more runs if it weren't for some bad luck (but also could have scored less if it weren't for the bad call at home).

Did anyone look at Ian Kennedy's line thus far this yr? Grandy has been great' date=' but when you combine Coke, Jackson, AND Kennedy, we sure gave up a whole hell of a lot[/quote']I have been following Kennedy, and he has been consistently very good. Who would have figured entering the season that Kennedy would have a better season than Hughes.

Yanks should have traded Joba instead of Kennedy, although Joba has improved greatly this year, he is just another middle reliever that can easily be obtained.

Selig should grow a pair and insist that Colon be dissected after this start and examined for PEDs.

Yup
