He might come off the board right now.

CC Sabathia, P (23 M)

It's a very expensive contract, but up until this point, my team salary is relatively low. The thought of having the top three pitchers in my starting rotation produce anywhere between a 15-18 WAR is just too tempting, and CC is the last remaining pitcher who you can have confidence in to produce a 5+ WAR on the season.

And at least I get to enjoy Lee and Sabathia in one rotation...

Rofl you know me so well.

Very good pick' date=' I was heavily debating about picking him but his salary was a little to high, especially considering Halladay's pretty big salary already in my rotation.[/quote']

Thanks JBay. With these two picks I wanted Cruz (or one other player that hasn't been selected yet) and Sabathia. So with you and Flynn already having a relatively high payroll, I felt confident that CC would get back to me.

Haha yeah, at this point, there weren't many pitchers who you could have been referring to. Being a Yankee and having a huge salary, I do wonder if CC would have made it all the way back to me, but 22 picks is a lot and I didn't want to take any chances.

While I'm deciding' date=' I'd like to specially thank y228 for making that post and tempting me to take someone who I don't know about now but don't think will last another round. Thanks.[/quote']

Haha you're welcome - good luck deciding.

Wainwright, Lee, and Sabathia are about as good as it gets. I thought for sure that Y228 was going to draft an everyday player in this round, though.

Fielder was a nice pick. Last season was pretty much his floor. I'm guessing he rebounds in a big way. Hanson and Cain are virtually interchangeable. I think Hanson has a chance to be a little better. I'm happy to have Haren as my #2.

Yeah, this is probably what conventional wisdom would suggest. But I always planned for three of my first four picks to be pitchers, and I'm pleased with the ones I ended up with. Hopefully I'll find a way to build a solid offense without any stars to support my pitching.

Maybe we'll just call you the Mariners :D

Three aces as your front three is scary for the rest of us. And there are still a lot of good position players left and plenty of under-the-radar guys who could breakout in 2011.

Haha, we'll see how my offense looks when this thing is over. For what it's worth, this is my strategy in redrafts (or more accurately, in the only other redraft I've done) - use the early rounds to make one component of my team very strong, and hope to build up the other half of my team with solid picks in the later rounds.

Yeah we'll see. I really like the Haren pick as well. After the first two rounds I planned to select CC as my number three starter, but if he went off the board, I probably would have selected Haren instead.

It's definitely a solid strategy. I was joking around' date=' you'll clearly be better than the M's.[/quote']

Yeah I know lol. Just explaining my rationale, for the sake of discussion.

Heyward was another guy I was hoping would fall to me, but he was the guy that I was surprised was still on the board. He should have a tremendous season next year.

If you want offense I'll give you Pujols for Lee? I planned on taking Sabathia with my next pick but now he's off the board I'm probably going to be screwed without an true Ace on my pitching staff. <_>

You might not be able to find a 5+ WAR pitcher with your next pick, but there are a numbers of pitchers left who should be safely in the 4 win range, and might even be able to sneak into the 5 range.

He was on my radar for a while but kept thinking I could afford to put him off. Almost took him instead of Holliday, now I got both.

Cole Hamels - SP ($6.65M)

He wasn't selected today was he?

Nope, and I love the pick. Cole Hamels is an excellent pitcher. This was one of the guys who I was referring to in my post to Divinity about pitchers who should fall safely within the 4 win range.
