I'm skeptical. Waiting for further confirmation.

Twitter has been hacked before, and so far it is only Pete Abraham.

Seems like a lot to pay (though not as muh as I would expect for Crawford).

This might be the first time that I want to break Theo's legs over someone he DID sign.

On the bright side, this leaves a700 with absolutely nothing to bitch about for the following season which makes me extremely happy.

It's official. Globe is running it on their site.

MLB Trade Rumors has it as well. And ESPN is running it as we speak in their live blog online.

Absolutely hate the contract. But this keeps him away from the Yankees and really improves the roster for the short-term.

There is a bright side' date=' and that means we can sign Downs/Soriano without have to surrender a first round pick.[/quote']

True, but will there be enough cake to go around?

Is there any way to see this as anything BUT a giant f*** YOU to the Yankees? They know the Rangers will drive up the price on Lee so they didn't need to do that. Instead, they'll get their second best option.

I think that if this signing was next year, I'd have liked it more, but with Drew, Cameron, Ortiz and others off the books next year and a crappy FA market, this deal would look better. I don't like the years or the AAV, but my main concern is that this deal doesn't look like a Lugo deal (you know, another TB Ray we had signed) after a few years.

I don't get why people always act as if this team doesn't have enough coin to spend in signing anyone they want. Aside from the Yanks, the Sox have the most money to work with in baseball. They have one of the most rabid and diehard fanbases of any franchise in any sport in this country that spends a ton of money everyday on merchandise, tickets, and other assorted s***, not to mention their TV deal and everything else they've got going on.

They can sign anyone they want. The luxury tax is stupid. It's a pittance compared to what kind of money they have and pretending it really affects them is ridiculous. It's about time Henry and the ownership group steps up to the plate and says f*** it, we're going to win. Period.

Salary aside, this move makes a lot more sense looking at 2012 after Ortiz and Drew are gone. There aren't any good OF options next year.

I love that a700 gets his way.

Have always liked Crawford, so if true I will be really psyched to watch him. An OF of Crawford, Ellsbury and Kalish will be the fastest in the league.

Because, this is the ownership that waits until after opening day to announce contract extensions. Handing out deals like this when Gonzalez isn't inked long term yet is a f***ing recipe for disaster.
