According to FoxSports/Fanhouse

Depending on what the Marlins are asking he'd be a good secondary LF/3B option and he could easily DH as well. He only however be pursued as a low priority as there are better options out there.

Bet he goes to the Blue Jays for three prospects one of them being Carlos Perez. Marlins could use a stud catching prospect after Skipworth kind of bombed out. I saw they would move Hill to 3B and keep Uggla at 2B which kind of made the least sense... like ever.

If he has already rejected a very good contract from the Marlins then why trade for him - specially if he does not fit run prevention model.

Or is it some other model this year?

Is $12mil a year enough for 30 HRs/ 100 RBIs from 2B? Obviously Uggla and his agent don't think so, and I agree. Not sure what his defense is like, but he's putting up big numbers in a traditionally weak offensive spot.

I just remember his horrid defensive performance in an All star game. Not that he was considered a good defender anyway, but didn't he have 3 or so key errors in the 2008 All Star Game that helped the AL win?

It's unlikely that the Sox acquire him, unless they're targetting Prince specifically as a DH and plan on putting Uggla at third.

Or if Theo wants to put Pedroia at short and Uggla at second. I guess that's technically possible...

Trade for him and move him to first base. He can play second, he can play first. If he's athletic enough to fake it in middle infield, he could even develop into quite a nice 1B.

Around the horn, Youks-Lowrie/Scoot-Peddy-Uggla is really decent.

(and don't worry about Adgon. If we even wind up getting him, Uggs can shift to LF or the DH spot which is not locked down to Papi after next year)

It would definitely not be worth it. Like Jacko said you'd be trading an amount of talent equal to a .870 OPS 2B. When you move Uggla to 1B we just end up with an average offensive 1B for an extremely steep cost. Pass

I disagree because you're trading with the Marlins. They like present value and you can make some lopsided deals on that basis.

Besides, Uggla isn't an "average" offensive 1B if moved to 1B. He's not in the top 5, but his production would still be solidly respectable. About on par with Paul Konerko's. Certainly a better option at first than anything we currently have, as long as Youkilis is still prepping to be a 3B.

Would that be the run prevention model that had the Sox finish next to last in run prevention in 2010? Lol! I have heard from Marlins fans that Uggla significantly improved his fielding last year.

When half the team is AAAA injury replacements, then ya it's not surprising they didn't rank high in run prevention.

That had nothing to do with injuries and everything to do with coaching and fundamentals. Stop blaming the injuries for everything. There's no excuse for not executing plays. That's the single thing that I would expect my AAA players to be able to do at the major league level.

Uggla to Atlanta for a 29 year old IF coming off a career year and a walk-per-inning LHRP.

Baffling. You realize we could have beaten that handily with Doubront and Lowrie, right?

I called the front office cheap all year this previous season.

I was ******** with the whole "bridge year" concept.

I was irate when they sat on their thumbs at the trade deadline.

This offseason, while young is already starting to piss me off.

We might be in for another long one boys.

I would imagine next season will be a "bridge" type year as well. I fully believe the FO intends is to get Agon after 2011. So they won't be signing any long term deals for 3B or 1B. If Crawford and Werth price themselves out(which could happen, I'm not thrilled at the idea having Crawford at 20M or Werth at 18.5M annually, and I doubt the Sox will be either) they could be looking at a one year types in LF also. I think they may go 4 years n V-Mart(catch 2-3, DH 1-2 season).

Coming off the books next season,

Papelbon(12M estimate)

Ortiz(12.5M)

Drew(14M)

Cameron(7.25M)

Scutaro(5M, has option for 2012)

And possibly 2010 stop gaps 1B,LF(15M or, just guessing)

No one will be able to beat them for Agon. And Agon's agent has to know this. One of the reason I don't think he will want him to sign an extension before testing the market. I think if getting Agon means another "bridge" type year then so be it. If they save money this off season and still don't get Agon next off season then yes, I will be pissed like such as your self :D
