I'm sure he can manage for 2 years.

And if not, I think there are a good number of teams who'd want a GG 1B who hits like a beast for a reasonable contract.

Ya imagine that. Theo did well for sitting around with his thumb up his ass

We Still Need a few Bullpen Arms. Guerrier?

LF- Werth/Crawford hopefully the latter.

His contract is up in 2 years. If he can't manage they can not pick up his option and let him walk. I personally want no part of a mid 30's Youk. I'm on record saying I don't believe he will age well.

Yes I know he needs to do a few more things. But all the "sky is falling" crowd have been running around here for a month like chickens with their heads cut off, claiming Theo was only talking and needed to get off his ass and do something. Seems like he's been in discussions with Werth and Crawford and pulled off a trade for Agon. Not bad for a guy that can't close the deal.

I really don't think they are as worried about the ratings stuff as everyone is making it seem. That's not to say they weren't worried' date=' but as opposed to people being DISINTERESTED in the Sox, or losing interest, people were very anxious for them to get another player or two. The baseline interest was still there, unlike teams that are truly fading from view. I see that as an important distinction.[/quote']

They had the largest drop of ratings in baseball. What was it, 20-30% of tv ratings? That's a ton of money. A-gon is a biggg big move that will attract attention-- as awesome as pitching and defense are, everyone loves the long ball. Just about every position in this lineup is capable of either 20 home runs, or 60 steals.

I'm sorry, i can't hear y'all over the sound of how awesome Adrian Gonzales is....

By the way, i wonder what are GoBruins and a700 going to complain about now? :o:lol:

Agon stabilizes the line up as it is currently constructed. They don't HAVE to get Werth or Crawford now. Yes they should still try, but they don't look as desperate now.

What makes this even sweeter is there is no possible Boras factor to deal with extending him! LOL Seems like the Sox always have to go through him.

a700 will complain it's going to take 200M to sign him. Gobruins will dislike that Agon is Mexican, call Theo a beaner and demand to see his green card.

Hate to be the person who brings this up, but it is a valid warning that I'm sure someone will mention. I'd caution against 2011 and beyond roster fantasies until this is finalized. We've been down this road before. While things look good, it ain't over 'til it's over, if you know what I'm saying.

I know that I personally watched less because they were 8 games behind and had Eric Patterson batting 2nd for a good portion of the season. It is easy to become disinterested when that is the situation.

Today the Sox apparently acquired one player for a number of unseen minor leaguers. I imagine the tenor the posts around here will change drastically, but because of the addition of ONE player.

To me, that means that underneith it all most knew this was a really, really strong team beforehand, even if there was bitching like this was the KC Royals. Just sayin'.

You're right ORS. The type of heartbreak we are used to involves moves like this falling through.

I'm extrordinarily optimistic but am still checking regularly to see that the deal has been completed. From what it sounds like, if this deal doesn't happen it is due to a failed physical, not a disagreement around the players involved.

Awesome news to wake up to :)

Anybody care to predict AGON's numbers for next year?

.310/.400/.560 45 doubles, 35 HR, 120 RBI

So is A-Gon. But Your right about the Picks thing. We have dominated. Im Gonna miss Beltre a little and the team screwing around with him and his head.

What do you mean by this?

The team screwing around with him? THey signed him to a good one year deal, he produced at an elite level in a contract year (again) and now he'll get a good payday elsewhere.

In the process he knocked two of the Sox players out for extended periods by being a middle linebacker charging into the OF after flyballs.

I think Beltre's departure was predictable when they signed him last year.

Gonzalez has literally been THE target from the moment the Sox lost out on Teixeira.

This is sweet. Finally, a f***ing big bat to get this club where they should have been with Teixeira.

You are on a hair trigger to defend the FO. When I read the line, I assumed he was talking about the team rubbing his head after his HRs. You, of course, took it as a slight to the FO. ROFLMAO

What' everyone think the extension may be in terms of years and $?

I'm thinking something like,

2011: 11M 2012: 18M 2014: 18M 2013: 18M 2015: 20M 2016: 20M 2017: 20M 2018: Vesting option for 20M, 5M buyout.

So 6 years/130M or 7/145M

Yet, that I can think it is evidence enough to heed the warning, IMO. Don't get me wrong, I'm optimistic that they've learned how to not let things like this fall apart. That said, I'll lose some of my pessimism after they nail a few of these with no hiccups.

Except that this team hasn't had a true hall of fame caliber player on this team since Manny left. Considering the Red Sox were thinking about starting 2010 with Casey Kotchman at first, this is a pretty big deal.

All we need now is an OF and some bullpen pieces and we should be a beast.

A Met fan friend just text me that AGon should be playing handball on the Monster and that he is better than horseface.

Now' date=' I am really excited to buy some tickets next Saturday. I hope I get elected for XMas at Fenway.[/quote']

You are a fickle old SOB, aren't you?

Can the distrust of the FO maybe stop sometime soon then, please? This is EXACTLY the move that so many of us have been saying they were saving up for. Now it appears to be here, you can now give them your money without feeling bad about it and we can all watch a team that is in the elite ranks again (on paper).

C'mon you must have smoke some of my stash, you where saying how you weren't certain you would like if they dropped a Tex size deal in his lap. But ya that was more of just a smart ass answer that i figure you get a laugh out of. The comment about GB was a slap :D
