Red Sox:

http://www.chrisoleary.com/projects/baseball/pitching/Images/Pitchers/JonLester/JonLester_2006_002.jpgJ

Jon Lester, LHP (1-2, 4.71)

Lester struck out 11 and allowed the Blue Jays only one hit -- a leadoff double by Vernon Wells in the second -- in his seven innings to pick up his first victory of the season last Wednesday. He walked leadoff man Mike McCoy twice but picked him off. He made 119 pitches, 75 for strikes, and was able to work both sides of the plate, using a changeup effectively when behind in the count. He regained the feel on his cutter. His curveball was good and he was able to locate his fastball. He was able to keep his pitches down. With all of that going for him, it was the fifth time in his career that he had 11 or more strikeouts in a game.

Angels:

LAA Ervin Santana, RHP (1-2, 4.59)

Santana has good peripheral numbers. They include 28 strikeouts and 10 walks in 33 1/3 innings. He's allowed less than one hit per inning and has a solid 1.23 WHIP for a starting pitcher. But Santana has been hurt by a few mistakes, many of which have ended up a part of the six home runs he has allowed through five starts. He hasn't received a ton of run support and has pitched better than a 1-2 record would indicate. Santana struck out eight in 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision on Tuesday vs. Cleveland.

Mojos in effect tomorrow:

"I beat cancer then beat the Rockies in the WS" Mojo and "No moaning, bitching, complaining or being ridiculously negative" mojo.

Win.

Hopefully we get a win streak going. Hopefully Lester can continue pitching well, once Lester, Beckett and Lackey get going, this rotation is going to be great as we expected. Anything from Dice-k is gravy.

Now, what worries me is the 17 runs tonight, after a team scores that many runs they tend to have a terrible night offensively the next night.

Remember' date=' this team was built to win 2-1 and 3-2 games. That's all it needs to do.[/quote']

Adrian Beltre was built to be a good defender. Whoops!

Exactly at 2nd part.

Tomorrow we get 2 hit with Beltre getting both the hits (singles) and making 3 errors allowing 2 unearned runs to score which eventually wins the game for the Angels

Do you ever not say stupid things?

It just makes sense for one of the few posters still optimistic about the team to be the ones using their mojo, doesn't it?

I'm optimistic about the Sox being able to turn this thing around... mostly because of who hit well last night. Guys like VMart, Beltre, Hall, and Drew all hit the cover off... to win consistently, we need them to do that and not throw out 0-4 on the stat sheet every other night.

If we can score 4-5 runs a game on a regular basis, I like our chances with the pitching staff we have.

I hope we get to see Ortiz in the lineup today. He was standing more upright, keeping his head a lot more still and getting good bat speed his last time out. And as Riverside just showed, he has good numbers against Santana.

that's in the past ....

I think whats going to happen is that Lowell will DH VS lefties and Ortiz VS righties

so Ortiz will most likely play tonight

Two interesting stats:

1. The Red Sox lead the AL in Slugging Pct.

2. The Red Sox are 12th in the AL in ERA.

It's like the good old days...

Two also interesting stats:

1) The Red Sox do not rank top three in RS, they rank fifth.

2) That's exactly where they rank in OBP, fifth. Interesting.

No Lowell? Matchups or no matchups-- if a guy has a 4 for 4 night' date=' you don't bench him the next game.[/quote']

I've been sitting here thinking about this and I have nothing of worth to offer!

I'd say ride the hot bat. On the other hand, Ortiz will never regain form without at least some at bats.

I'd like to see Lowell start. Regardless of match-ups. He's producing.

Why post anything negative pre-game in a GT?

Most loyal Sox fans are still hopeful that the season will be fun and worthwhile.

A conundrum that would exist but for the ill-conceived signing of the slick fielding Beltre.

Who hit a double and Homerun last night.

Stop breaking the mojo.

Ortiz is a ship that has sailed. Lowell will soon be underway too, but especially after being swept by Baltimore the onus is on putting the best lineup out there.
