Math.

Three bases, 7 walks.

I have news for you, Dipre. A home run is always better than a walk.

I have news for you, rhet. OBP (which is actually what i usually defend) is not only comprised of walks, also, OPS (a far superior stat to RBI, whether you like it or not) is comprised of a player's ability to get on base and hit for power.

On a side note, walks set up this rally. Just sayin'.

So if lead holds' date=' Orioles will be 2-16... 100 losses is a good bet[/quote']and we are scrapping to beat them each night. It speaks volumes about the Sox.

"Hey' date=' we just took the lead. Let's put our worst reliever in the game!" I just dont understand Francona sometimes. You're up 4 in the 8th. That is the time to step on the throat.[/quote']... and not your own team's throat.

Theyve over used Bard and Okajima. Dont mind them giving a night off

He isnt using them in the right spots. They are your setup men. Use them when you have a lead and occasionally when you have a slight deficit. They are on the team to lock down wins, especially when your team is starting out slow.

Sox batters facing a pitcher who could possibly be rookie of the year. Wheres the crying emoticon when ya need one?
....oh and there was last night's ace too.

Nice D by Scutaro again. He's a wizzard.

Theyve been used 18 times through 17 games. Never mind Tito, burn them like Scott Proctor and Tom Gordon

You'll just never get it. Scoring runs is the object of the game and some actions result in higher success of scoring than others. A home run always has a better chance of scoring a run than drawing a walk. Every time.

He is overusing them, but he is using them a lot in 2-3 run deficits

Did you read the post?

When you hit a Home Run, you get on base, and subsequently score a run. It's all part of OBP, because you can't score runs if you don't get on base.

Let me put it simply: If Hall and Martinez don't walk, the inning is much shorter, the Home runs don't happen, and the runs don't score. Why? Because you can't score runs if you don't get on base.

2 walks then a Home Run is always better than a Solo shot.

Okajima

4-3 win

8-7 win

7-6 win

3-1 loss

6-3 win

8-3 win

4-3 loss

6-4 loss

9-7 win

Just 3 of the games he appeared in were losses.

EDIT: Ramirez has a strikeout to end the inning. Very nice. Lets feast more on O's pitching

The goal is to score runs, you score runs by getting on base. The order of the best ways to get on base are HR, Triple, Double, Single, Walk. The walk may be last on the list, but it doesn't mean it's not useful. However, you always take a hit or extra-base hit over a walk. That doesn't mean you should swing at balls, if the pitcher throws 4 balls, you take the walk. If he gives you good pitches to hit, you swing hard and try to get an extra-base hit. It's all in the context.

OBP, when looked at as whole, contains every type of hit, walks, and HBP. I just took the "You love walks" words rhet put in my mouth and ran with them.

Three home runs is better than three walks.

That's all I'm trying to teach you.

This is overly simplistic. The argument has never been the value of a HR vs the value of a BB. Your entire gripe against Drew has been that you don't care that he gets on base because he doesn't drive in runs. The problem with that, which is the root error of this over simplification, is that you are assuming that another positive result will be had if he swings away rather than taking pitches when the pitcher is being fine.
