HE IS THROWING STRAIGHT FASTBALLS. HE HAS NOTHING BUT A STRAIGHT FASTBALL. CAN YOU HIT A STRAIGHT FASTBALL?

Gotta love it when Yankees fans get this bent out of shape over the Red Sox winning.

Yep. The magnus force is dependent on the velocity and rotational velocity (spin frequency). With the normal rotational velocity a pitcher puts on a fastball' date=' it would have to be travelling over 300 mph to have enough magnus to overcome the acceleration of gravity. Or something like that. I recall a paragraph in a physics book that used this as an example.[/quote']

"The trajectory of the ball was too high..."

"Who gives a s***? It's gone...."

Not with a AAAA OF' date=' a s***** BP, a slumping offense, and a catcher who can't throw runners out. I say numbes one, two and three will settle in as the team starts to gel, but number four will be a recurring problem.[/quote']

If our largest issue is that we can't throw runners out, we're in good shape. Statistically, stolen bases aren't very valuable.

But when they come in bunches (Like 9?) they become valuable enough to cost a team ballgames.

I agree that allowing 9 stolen bases every game is an issue. But even Victor Martinez isn't that bad of a catcher that he'll allow 9 stolen bases on a regular basis and the Red Sox will likely address the issue via a trade and move V-Mart to DH.

Agreed.

Paps keep this s*** up he will make league minimum in 2012.

He really wasn't that bad. He gave up his only earned run on a good pitch up and out of the zone and it was encouraging to see him throw so many splitters effectively.

I have to mention, it's another disappointing defensive performance from Scutaro. If he didn't boot a double play ball, it would have been an easy win.

Jacko also gets upset over gift calls from umps that help Boston. Yet he ignores that not a single bad umpiring call in last yr.'s playoffs went against the Yanks.

Scutaro doesn't impress me @short. Seems more like a second baseman range-wise

That's because he's a 2nd Baseman by trade. He needs both Beltre and Pedey to help him wear his "SS mask".

yep... and our overall defense is just, well, oddly not great.

But that will improve when we at least have our better outfield alignment. Ellsbury's eventual return would be a big boost, but the shame is that he had been hitting well just before that injury.

I think it needs time for the team to "Gel". IMO when the team is completely together, playing in mid-season form the defense (With the exception of noodle-arm Martinez) will be awesome.

This is an unnecessary hyperbole, and one that continues to perpetuate a fallacy.

Excluding close safe/out calls in non-crucial spots that benefitted both teams, and strike/ball calls that benefitted both teams, if memory serves, here were the bad calls during the postseason that occurred in crucial spots and/or directly influenced whether or not a run scored...

Calls that benefitted the Yankees:

-Joe Mauer's bloop down the left field line being called foul in the top of the 11th inning of game 2 of the ALDS.

-The missed double play at third base during the run down in the top of the 5th inning of game 4 of the ALCS.

-Chase Utley being called out on the back end of a double play in the top of the 8th inning of game 2 of the World Series.

Calls that went against the Yankees:

-Nick Swisher being called out for leaving too early from third base on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 4th inning of game 4 of the ALCS.

-Johnny Damon's line drive to Ryan Howard being ruled a catch in the bottom of the 7th inning of game 2 of the World Series.

-The home plate umpire ruling that Ryan Howard touched home plate in the bottom of the 4th inning of game 4 of the World Series.

I think you're right about them needing to gel. Lackey, Scutaro, Cameron, Beltre, Hermida, and Hall are all new and this group hasn't even played as a team thru April yet. The list gets longer if you include relievers and minor leaguers getting brief appearances.
