With Dice-K being inserted back into the Sox rotation, Francona pretty much said in so little word that Clay would go back to Triple-A. Francona will not have a 13 man rotation and he will not put Wake in the BP; therefore, no room for Buchholz.

This would really be a stupid move. First off, Buchholz is the only one in the rotation with less than a five ERA. I really hope this does not happen. It is time for Buchholz to get his chance. I do not know what else he needs to prove.

When did he say that it was Clay that would be bounced from the rotation? I'm guess it's Wake to the pen.

Francona said that the team would not go with a 13-man pitching staff. He also said that Wakefield is a starter and having a knuckleballer in the 'pen invites its own set of problems.

With those words alone, Buchholz would be the one bounced from the rotation.

Clay gave up 4 unearned runs last time out, which shows that he still has a bit of a problem dealing with pressure situations, ie the defense failing on him. I still think he deserves a spot before Wake, who is going to be a huge stolen base liability, and long before Itch and Shoe.

Throwing him back to triple A will only stunt his development and they know that. Last year, he was dominating so hard in Pawtucket, and it sounded like he kind of got bored there and stopped throwing so well because of that.

It is not Buchholz fault his CF could not catch a line drive right at him.

Ofcourse its not fault, but it is his fault that he let more runs score after that. He's still young and his confidence issues have an impact on his pitching sometimes.

If this team puts Dice K in the rotation and Buchholz is the odd man out I'm going to be pissed. I'll trust the kid over Dice BB any damn day of the week.

Lol.

Anyone that thinks Dice-K has more short/long term return than Buck is "delusional".

Why the f*** would Clay have gone to AAA in the first place? He is 100 times better than wake. Wake is a 43 year old trick pitch grandpa, Buchholz is our future. Sending him back to AAA would be beyond idiotic.

It would be a stupid move. Wakefield is more hittable and, if right, DiceK should be in the rotation too.

If they're going to put him in AAA they might as well put him in a trade for a piece they actually need.

They should release Atchison, he sucks, then put Wakefield in the pen as the long man. Wakefield could be useful in the bullpen as a long man when a starter gets rocked. Buchholz is the better pitcher at the moment and should stay in the rotation.

Francona needs to stop coddling unproductive veterans like Ortiz and Wakefield. The team needs a shot of youth and energy. Darnell has done that, but you pretty much know it won't last. Clay is an important part of the future, and you can't send someone down who is pitching so well.

Darnell Mcdonald is a 31 year old career minor leaguer. Certainly not a "shot of youth".

The idea that Clay should be sent back to AAA or to the pen is ludicrous. To give the team the best chance to win, you put your five most talented starters in the rotation. Clay is one of those. Dealing with situations when things don't go absolutely perfectly is something that can't be learned at Pawtuckett.

I'd assume Atchison goes to Pawtuckett as he has options. No reason to release a player with options.

He sucks, I don't care if he goes to Pawtucket or is released, he needs to go period.

Edit: Or Schoeneweis can go, he sucks as well.

He said it during his press conference after the game for posters in the Twilight Zone

Interestingly, he hit 97.2 mph last night according to pitchf/x. Among pitchers who have thrown 10 or more innings this year, only Jimenez, Paulino, Verlander, Penny and de la Rosa have thrown harder average FBs. Buchholz has been throwing harder than notoriously hard throwers like Felix Hernandez, AJ Burnett and CC Sabathia and is tied with Josh Beckett at 94.0mph.

He threw very well last night. I think he does much better when he steps up the tempo. He gets in trouble when he slows things down and takes a lot of time between pitches. Getting in a good rhythm is helpful to many pitchers and Buccholz was in a good rhythm last night. Lester turned things around in 2008 when he started working more quickly.

All I've heard is that Wake is going to the pen. I've never heard even a joke rumor (except here) that Buccholz was going to AAA.
I am almost positive that Buccholz is out of options, so that was never a possibility because he'd never clear waivers.

It's just goofy, too goofy even for the Red Sox. Every team in baseball wants Buccholz. If the Sox believed there wasn't room for him under the BigTop, they'd trade him for a bat - not ship him off to the minors, where there's nothing for him to learn and he'd be useless.

a700 is right, Buchholz is out of options. There is 0% chance he get's sent to the minors because he would have to clear waivers. And if he is put on waivers he will last all of about 5 seconds. Maybe longer if the GM who has first crack at him passes out from lack of blood flow due to the ragging bonner he would get upon seeing Buchholz's name on the waiver wire.

redsox.com is reporting that Wakefield is being bumped from the rotation

It seems the most logical move. Dice-K needs to start and show he can produce. Either to cement his spot in the rotation or build his value enough to receive an adequate return in a trade.
