did anyone see the article in last month's sports illustrated about miguel cabrera sobering up? it mentioned that scouts from the yankees went to see him when he was an amateur free agent and not only were they not interested but they told his father that he'd never make the majors

If that was the case, then why did the Yankees have the highest bid for Cabrera? Sounds revisionist to me, but the Yankees had the highest bids for both Cabrera and Felix Hernandez and those guys turned elsewhere

wow, jm, you're on fire today. you said the yankees had the game in the bag in the fourth and detroit immediately hit a 2 run homer to pull within two. now you said they put the game away for the second time and detroit immediately loads the bases with no one out

where did you read that?

Because of that relationship, Cabrera signed with the Marlins for $1.8 million. The Yankees never made an offer.

"The Yankees' scout in Venezuela didn't like me," Cabrera said. "He said I would not play in the big leagues. He told my dad that, and he told other scouts too. I think maybe it was because I was playing shortstop and was tall. I was awkward. The other scouts said, You're going to move to third. He didn't see that."

Seriously, not sure why we continue to use Mo in these 4 run games. I know we had to use our guys pretty early today, but at some point you have to trust your pen, especially when everyone is pitching well sans Gaudin. Why not Mitre here?

if only the yankees had a more flashy closer

I think it's ludicrous, but a lot of Yankee fans on the other boards and others that I know are more interested in having a guy like Chamberlain closing (ie younger, harder throwing, longer future, etc) than Rivera. That all seemed to change when Chamberlain hit his rough spots.

You tend to say that a lot.

every time the red sox lose it's "final nail in the coffin". every time the red sox win it's "tick another day off the calander"

no matter what, it's some kind of victory for "the greatest sports franchise of all-time"

any day that we win is a victory. Any day the sox lose is an indirect victory

With that huge payroll you better be winning a lot.

Same could be said about the Red Sox, 2nd highest payroll at 162 million, which is double or more then half the teams in MLB.

Yankees are about 44 million above the Sox, yet the Sox are 44 million or more above all teams in MLB except 5.

We're over the .500 w/l so I'd considered that winning. Jacko said we win a lot. So i'd figure I'd point that out. If your going to pay so much money you better be winning or that money is going to waste.
