Have to agree with Y228 here. Obstructions are a variable that should never come into play. Look at what happened to Mantle. No drain pipe sticking out, and he would have played on two legs.

Mantle on 2 legs and sans booze would probably have been the best player ever

And for the record, I think they shouldn't be allowed to play in a stadium like this, but, at the very least, any ball that hits a catwalk that isn't going to be a home run has got to be foul. You cannot have a pop up like that turn into a hit because of obstructions. It is a direct hinderance to the integrity of the game.

I agree with you.

However, because it happens so infrequently, and because it is not an advantage for either team, I choose to chalk it up to randomness.

I'd like to see Mo ready if this inning gets any dicier.

I disagree. You don't bring in your 39 year old closer for a two inning save in the first week of the season. That's something the Red Sox would do.

I wasn't asking for two innings, I was asking for four outs, with an off day tomorrow, and three days of previous rest. It's Mo, and he's showing time and time again that he has absolutely no problem doing it. The Yankees have one of the greatest weapons in the history of the sport. They should take full advantage of it.

Overall, very pleased with this team.

We couldnt hit Shields, so we worked him out of the game and feasted on the pen.

Burnett was off in inning #1, although he didnt give up a hard hit ball all day. After that inning, he was in complete control.

Joba played get it over against two guys who can hit and got burned. Once Crawford hit the triple, he went into shutdown mode.

Mo was Mo.

Overall, very pleased to be 4-2 after two tough road series to start the yr. Once we get Tex back at full strength, this team is gonna be tough to beat. And Granderson gives this team a dimension we havent seen in awhile. Power, patience, and speed from the bottom of the order. He and Gardner are breaths of fresh air at the bottom. Loving the start

Not in the first week of April.

Anyways, it's a moot point. Next time I see the Yankees, I'll be sitting in my usual seat in the bleachers. Good times.

Joba did a bad job against Crawford, but I think you just have to give Bartlett a lot of credit leading off. He fouled some tough pitches off, and also took some tough pitches to get himself back in the count. As a team, they also seemed scared of Pena, while they go right after Longoria.

Also, I completely agree about the approach against Shields. It's what they didn't do on Friday. Price came out throwing well, but the Yankees abandoned being patient right away, and left themselves no chance to get him out of the game early.

You're making an assumption that Mo is not at full strength because it is early. He might not be, but he has looked as sharp as ever in his first three outings. I really don't think getting an extra out has any kind of adverse effect on Mo, but obviously there is no way for me to know this for sure.

Not one team's middle relief scares me with this offense. This approach, though pathetic to Joe West, is a winning formula. Hold your own until the 5th or 6th, then pile on vs the middle relievers.

Just to let you know, the Yankees have pretty much followed this formula for over a decade. Glad to see you finally caught on.

I really like this quote from Girardi about tomorrow's ceremony.

"We've talked about all the things we've needed to talk about -- the importance of 2010 and how 2009 is behind us. To me, it will be the last time in a sense we can think about it a little bit."

It kinda sucks to have opening "day" at 1pm on a workday' date=' when they raise the banner and hand out rings. Would have been great on a weekend[/quote']

I agree. I have to take a day off to go to the game.

So many empty seats for the entire game (all over the stadium), and it completely emptied out around the seventh inning. Really disappointing, especially after the fans' pathetic showing during Game 2 of the ALCS last year.
