Ken Rosenthal on "Hot Stove" was adamant that Scutaro is going to the Red Sox.

Ken Rosenthaul is a bit of a tool also. There all saying(sports writers) Scutaro is going to the Sox because the Sox need a SS and he is arguably the best available.

Scutaro might be in Boston next year, but it seems the Sox are doing everything they can to lower his price. I bet the Sox are trying to get him to a one year deal with an option.

I still don't want them to bite on Scutaro, but a one-year deal w/option seems reasonable enough.

Yea, I would be fine with that too. We wouldn't have to lock him up long term and he'll play hard and won't slack b/c he knows he could become a free agent again and get a big pay day. Then again he was probably thinking during the past year with the Blue Jays. I wouldn't expect him to take anything less than a three year deal.

He made 1.1M last season. Even if they gave in and gave 2 years, it shouldn't be more then 3-5M AAV right? Is anyone gonna offer him more then that?

Scutaro is 34, this is his pay day. And 3-5M a season for the next couple years isn't bad. If he plays well, he probably could earn himself another 2 year deal before he retires IMO.

Your estimation is reasonable ,yes. My problem is anything more than 1 year guaranteed.

I still think that unless they land Hanley, or something else breaks insanely well, that the Sox consider Jed Lowrie their guy and will want to give him and their other young SS prospects (Tejeda, Navarro, Iglesias) a chance to break through in the next few years.

If I'm right, they'll make a series of short term moves until some younger player or another breaks through and can control the position for multiple cost-controlled seasons.

As for Lowrie himself, I still think that while he's no Nomar Garciaparra, he might be a John Valentin. And that's worth a lot.

Ideally it be one with an option. But considering Iglesias is probably reasonably at least 2 years away, 2 years wouldn't be the end of the world. Especially since next years SS FA crop is fahked also. Unless Rollins or Reyes manages to get their options declined.

I still wouldn't mind trading for Jose Reyes if the option presents itself. That would be a major steal -- literally.

And can you imagine Ellsbury and Reyes at the top of the lineup? Deadly!

Until Lowrie proves he can stay healthy and productive on the field, i will not be able to understand your massive hard-on for him.

Also, how you can even try and compare Lowrie to Valentin is beyond me, seeing as he has in no way demonstrated he has the power necessary to be a .800 OPS player in the majors.

Actually he has -- before he got hurt back in '08, Lowrie was flirting with a .800 OPS. It was only a half season, and the injury fueled slump erased it by the end of the year, but when you back that up with his minor league numbers and his scouting pedigree as an offensive player, I think it'd be reasonable to see him as a possible .280/.350/.450 player. You don't give up on those at the first setback.

The "Minor League numbers" and "Scouting Pedigree" mean nothing if he can't stay healthy.

Also, you're relying on half a season of minor league AB's which end with "Injury-fueled slump", one which he's been in for almost three years.

Face it, you can't compare him to John Valentin-or anyone else for that matter- until he both shows he's healthy and puts up the numbers.

The Mets won't trade Reyes because his value is at an all-time low.

You'd have to start with Buchholz and it would take more than that.
