I don't know how the 86 Sox could be the biggest WS Choke when the 68 Cards blew a 3 - 1 lead in games. I don't think they were the only team to blow a 3 to 1 lead. The 86 Sox were the underdog in that WS and they didn't have a 3-1 lead in games. The Mets were big favorites and the vastly superior team. It's hard to be accused of choking when you are the underdog and the inferior team. The Yanks were more than 2 to 1 favorites at the beginning of this Series.

 

To name a couple off the top of my head, the 1985 Cardinals and the 1979 Orioles blew 3-1 leads. The 1986 Red Sox remain the only team that was a strike away from winning the World Series and ended up losing.
