I'd like Downs, if the price is good. He's been somewhat more consistent than Frasor over the last couple years anyway, and he'd take some pressure off Oki.

If Papi can't hit' date=' they should get a veteran bat. Looking to the kids in a lineup that is already weaker than last season would be essentially throwing in the towel on the season.[/quote']

This. But i'm a troll.

Final thing to say to Doiji:

Why is it ok for you to be smug on members like a700 and Spudboy when they air their opinions but it's not ok when others are smug on you?

Why is it ok for you to bash Jacko when he over-hypes prospects but it's ok for you to over-hype them?

Why is it ok for you to go for the personal insult when others aren't personally attacking you?

Why is it ok for you to call other trolls when they defeat your argument with logic , scouting opinion and stats?

Why is it ok for you to talk about double-standards after taking all of the above into consideration?

Just sayin'.

He should be careful about being smug with me, because it is documented that I am right 99.2% of the time. Despite that, I don't act smug with him.

As I said before' date=' if Papi has another 1st half struggle, Adrian Gonzalez trade talks could heat up[/quote']

I'd say the FO targets Gonzales, Miguel Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez and the usual suspects.

Going to the farm if the team is struggling to win doesn't seem like a very logical approach. This is the Boston Red Sox. Not the Kansas City Royals.

Must have been a bad week. Last week you said you were always right.

He had an argument with a woman. That explains the drop in percentage.

That was until he faced me.

This was not planned. Completely spontaneous, and completely full of win.

I noticed. I was going to give a preemptive f*** you but I figured I'd wait until after you commented.

Since my original point (more of a question) has been lost in talk about prospects who will likely have little impact this season, I will go back to it, and move forward with another talksox members suggestion for possible acquisition of a bat during the year.

Todd Helton: (my suggestion, prob a midseason guy) yay or nay......reasons for, against, keeping contract and years left in to perspective.

Adrian Gonzalez: (someone elses suggestion, also a midseason guy) yay or nay, reasons for, against (other than them raping our farm system) and the prospective that we may have a chance of locking a probable perennial allstar up for a long time.

The problem with Gonzalez isn't just the farm system, its that the Padres want mlb ready players for him. Every article I read on Padres websites were saying Buchholz+Ellsbury+prospects. Considering the low price of both of those high calibur players, I really would hate to see that trade, especially if they couldn't lock up A-gon long term.

What about Magglio Ordonez as a stop gap?
Posted

But he hadn't done it yet, and there was hope he wouldn't. Now he has, and he just isn't worth it at all.

Anywho, unrelated news.

Not much to it really, except that the kid's problems are more with his head than his arm. you never know when someone like that might get it back together and start progressing again.

Still, there's probably nothing here that will ever show up in a Red Sox uni.

Ordonez had a .978 OPS after the AS break last year. That's nothing to sneeze at. It would be a salary dump so I doubt it would cost much prospect wise. But where do you play him?
Posted
The premise us Ortiz falls off the face of the planet' date=' so I'd take a wild guess and say... DH?[/quote']

Ordonez is interesting. He might even agree to kick the tires on a position change to 1B. Hes plenty athletic enough to play the position. Assuming he can also still play the OF, he could be a pretty valuable option defensively as well as offensively, and would allow a lot of flexibility on the roster on a game to game basis. As been said, we could prob get him for cheap as a salary dump.

Judging by the fact that every position, starting and bench, has been addressed to the apparent satisfaction of the FO, I don't see where Ordonez fits on this team. Even if Ortiz falls off the map to start the season and the FO gives up on him this time around, as it stands right now Lowell is that replacement at DH.

Even if they do ship Lowell away soon, $18 mil for a bench player on a bench with two other guys who play the OF? I understand the discussion but I just don't see the feasibility of the move.

In that case, Ortiz, not Ordonez would be riding the bench. Ordonez would be the DH not an OFer. Detroit might eat part of his salary, and in any event, the Sox would have to pay only the last two months of his salary ($6 million).
