Beckett needs to sack up big time tonight

Big time is not enough to justify just how much Beckett needs to sack up tonight.

If they lose tonight' date=' I am going to shoot myself in the face.[/quote']

I expect it to be with a water gun.

This game seems like it is about Josh Beckett, but I think it is really about the offense. Last nights game was won on one swing by Torii Hunter. Yes, Lester walked some guys and there were some hits here and there, but that's how you have to beat a guy like Lester: take advantage of what he gives you and hope it is enough. He gets enough K's and weakly hit balls to pitch around Abreu a few times. Hunter stood up and made it hurt.

Hopefully Youkilis or Martinez or Bay were taking notes.

I'm with CD, tonight is the season. They win tonight al the pressure goes back to LAA.

Step up, Josh.

What Kilo said. Also, step up offense. Some early runs would really make things easier to stomach.

I think last night Tito took Lester out 'early' (just over 100 pitches IIRC) because there's a chance he'll be back in the series. I don't think there's much chance of that with Beckett, so he should be on full rest if needed in the LCS. Let him throw 115 if necessary to get to the 8th (through 7) and then let Bard/Wagner + Papelbon finish it off. Must. Have. Offense.

The alternative to this team manhandling Jeff Weaver is Buchholz vs. Kazmir in an elimination game.

Jered Weaver, champ.

We would prefer Jeff, actually. Perhaps he could sneak in and take Jared's spot?

I hate the idea of being down 2-0 with Kazmir on the mound. That would suck.

Well, Beckett would not get a chance to come back on three days rest in this series, but he would be able to pitch a potential game five on normal rest.

This is an absolutely pivotal game for the sox. If the sox win this, then I think they have a chance. If the sox lose this, I have a very hard time believing they can win the series with the pitching matchups over the next two games, then a potential rematch in SoCal with Lackey.

I did that?

Yeah, I did that.

I absolutely hate West Coast games...

You of all people should know that anything can happen at any point in the series. Though I agree we really are in trouble if we dont win tonight.

The Red Sox are going with the same lineup as the one that scored zero runs last night, with Victor Martinez catching Josh Beckett.

Red Sox

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF

2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B

3. Victor Martinez, C

4. Kevin Youkilis, 1B

5. David Ortiz, DH

6. Jason Bay, LF

7. Mike Lowell, 3B

8. J.D. Drew, RF

9. Alex Gonzalez, SS

-- Josh Beckett, RHP

Drew, who is hitting .352 and slugging .690 in Sep/Oct, seems to be locked into the 8-hole.

Of course anything can happen. But if you lose this one, you get Kazmir and Saunders in Boston vs Buchholz and DiceK. I think Anaheim should take one of them IMO.

I feel very confidant that the sox can take 2 at Fenway. DiceK has been a pretty darn good pitcher since coming of the DL. Buchholz had two rough starts, but before that he was dominant for like 8 straight starts. I think if we win tonight, we take the series in 4 games. That being said, if we do lose tonight I see us losing in 4 or 5 games, but holding out hope that it could very well happen.
