Reminds me of why I like Aramis Ramirez. Could have gotten a much bigger contract elsewhere, but he chose to stay with the Cubs for less.

Im not saying I wouldnt do that same if I were not from Boston' date=' but dont assume he will feel some sort of remorse about leaving Boston. I am sure he will make it sound like he wanted to stay here and all that, and that is what will irk me. Thats what will make him greedy. The fact he had to take 18M rather than 14M....bc 14M certainly wasn't good enough to support his family. Its a slap in the face to people who make 40,000 and scrape by, or those who dont have jobs at all[/quote']

Its not a slap in the face to anybody who is in touch with reality.

You're slamming him for taking 18M rather 14M. That is a 4 million dollar difference, sir. And that's only per year. Say he gets a 5 year deal. That takes the annual $4M difference, and then it probably becomes $20M in total. You're going to call him greedy for not leaving $20 million on the table?

Jason Bay, and his camp, are businessmen, not philanthropists.

I hate how people call baseball players greedy.

If you were offered an 5/100 contract with your favorite team and a 4/100 contract with some random team, you'd surely take the one that netted you more money per year.

f***, anyone would take the more money, you'd be dumb not to.

Reality?

People scrape by making 40,000 a year... THAT IS REALITY.

They want to bitch and moan about a couple of MILLION dollars. You wanna talk about f***ing reality. Bitch and moan to play a f***ing childs game. A GAME!!!!

EDIT:

insults removed, I apologize JE.....JE, you have your opinions about it, I have mine.....I find neither wrong, our outlook on the situation just seem to be very different.

It's an occupation. What you do isn't important, it's making money that is important.

I assume you do not have a real job or pay, you know adult bills. Otherwise it is frustrating arguing the value of a buck from someone who has zero sense of it.

Did over the summer, not now.

Yup, I don't know the value of a buck because I've managed to figure out that making money is what counts. But apparently the greedy Jason Bay does, which is why he wants to get as much of those bucks as possible.

I am not missing the point. I didnt say offer him nothing, I simply said he is not going to be worth the money he will eventually accept, which will not be an offer from Boston. You are missing the point, if it becomes a matter of money, and both players are asking for the bank, I go with Holliday. My decision about which LF I want is not affected by the Yankees and their LF situation. Go for Holliday, if you dont get him there are still options available.

I am so sick of people thinking that we need to sign players to offset/balance what the Yankees needs are/will be. Baseball is not won by going in to every offseason trying to out-do the Yankees in the FA market, if so....the Yankees would have won a few WS titles since 2000 as that was the Yankees team building philosophy during that period. Its about building the best team. Matt Holliday makes them a better team.

I think that the goal of team building is to keep a good run differential. Jason Bay was the Sox most valuable offensive player this year according to WARP, just barely behind Jon Lester as the Sox most valuable player overall. Losing him, and getting nothing but Josh Reddick in return would be a huge disappointment and could only be blamed on nitpicking Holliday's improvement over Bay, which would be a pretty lame excuse if this team fails to make the playoffs in 2010... a distinct possibility.

This has the potential to be a classic Gom eat crow scenario.

Doubtful.

Are you flying to LA?

Doubtful. I'll scalp them. Gotta make up for those 12 Tigers ALDS tickets, LOL!

You must have a certain level of respect for A-Rod then.

Didn't you get your money back for the Tigers games?

I lose the convenience charge. About six bucks a ticket, lol.
