Exactly. It isn't....EITHER WAY. They weren't unlucky. They weren't lucky either. If you truly believe luck can have such a huge effect on the game over the course of an entire season sans injuries' date=' what the hell do you watch it for? [i']"Gee, I really can't wait to root for my team to get lucky this year!???"[/i]

They were a well managed team with the ability to win close games based on their speed, run manufacturing, and solid bullpen. I'm not sure how this changes next year.

Pardon me. I thought I was on a Red Sox forum. Could someone give me a link to Talksox? I think I wound up on Talkrays by mistake.

We have distinct advantages over the Rays offensively on both sides of the ball. The Rays will be in the hunt but there's no reason to believe that we can't come out on top of them. I'm sorry this is a difficult concept for you but it's nonetheless true

And the fact that I could make up a list of 4 devestating hitters and leave a perennial 20 HR threat out is somehow a knock on the Sox? Nice.

Yes, it IS. It is a kock on their durability. The Sox have a lot of fragile hitters of recent- Ortiz, Drew, Lowell specifically. If you don't believe that then I have a sweet pair of rose colored pants to sell you that will match your glasses perfectly.

Really? So this opinion is true? Your opinion is a fact now? This is interesting, because the rest of us are stating our opinions as...opinions. Which you don't seem to allow.

REMAIN CALM!!! ALL IS WELL!!!! ALL IS WELL!!!!

Does not having the utmost confidence in the team make us worse fans?

No, but having the utmost lack of confidence can. THe last 3 weeks all I've been hearing from you guys is Teixeira, Teixeira, and when Teixeira didn't come half of you sound like you want to take your toys and go home.

It's about time for you guys to get a wake up call and get back to recognizing the very good team we already have and not conceding anything to anyone before the season even starts.

Because the Sox are the only one of the three teams with injury prone players in key positions. Got it. Guess the Yankees can relax about Joba, AJ Burnout and CC Sunday Dinner, and the Rays can really air out that thin-as-paper bullpen of theirs.

Nobody is conceding anything. But nobody is acting like this team is better than the others in our division...nobody except you.

Its great that you have the belief that this team stacks up better. But to get frustrated and essentially question the loyalty of those who disagree with you with their OPINIONS and not statements determined by themselves to be facts, is just plain moronic.

That's not realistic, that's buying the media hype. The Yankees picked up those guys to replace lost players. They're not added on top of an already solid core they ARE the core. I'm sorry you're having trouble seeing that but it is reality. The Yankees are not all that.

I'm sick of the fear. And I'm sick of hearing how Teixeira will change the balance of power in the American League East, like potent hitters don't come to this division with that prediction attached to them at least once every two years. Anyone remember how A-Rod was going to restore the Yankee glory days? How'd that work out? How about Sheffield? Giambi? Abreu? We've all seen the song and dance before, shame on those of us who were fooled again.

This team doesn't NEED to improve. We're already, OBJECTIVELY, the best team in the AL East and the Yankees are spending that much money to try to keep up with US. Try to internalize that. THEY are TRAILING US.

As for Tampa Bay, the Rays were very lucky last year, they will not get that lucky again. I am perfectly comfortable predicting a playoff appearance for the Sox and see no reason why they won't take the division next year. Could something frekish happen? Yes. But it would take specific bad luck to the Red Sox like multiple key injuries to keep us out of the playoffs. Most teams should be so lucky as to be us.

I try to stay even keeled. I may run with idea aggressively here and there, but I try not to sway emotionally too far one way or another.

I love my Sox and everything that entails, and I'll follow them win, lose, or draw. Of course I'd like to see them win more often then not. But I understand sustained success is not a given by any chance. Knowing full well a couple key injuries here and there can derail most any team out there.

My expectations in most seasons is for the team to be in the PO. a WS title being the ultimate bonus. Knowing the Playoffs can be a crap shoot. But if some circumstances left them out this season, i wouldn't lose it, or be calling for heads. If the FO produces a Playoff team 3 out of 4 years, I find it hard to complain about.

This is reasonable, IMO.

Do you think we have the best team in the East next year, looking right now at the lineups?

Ok, I'll post with rose colored glasses on, and you'll see how boring it gets really quickly.

Lars Anderson is a lock to stabilize this lineup over the next decade, and the Sox will for sure win the AL East. If you don't think so, you're just not a true fan.

Decade? I thought we had already pencilled Lars in for 20 years.

BSN: That's my position most of the time as well but when I express it that way all the little Jackxonianmarch clones around here start talking in sober terms about how good everyone else is and how we're probably going to miss the playoffs altogether. Am I overreacting? Sure. But there's a time and a place for that and the Chicken Littles need to realize that Teixeora or no Teixeria the sky isn't teetering any worse than usual this morning so we can get back to actual Red Sox baseball.

That's right - guess I'm not enough of a fan to think he'll have a 20 year HoF career.

How many games do you think we'll win the division by?

Yeah Littleton, Ramirez, Penny and Bard and you guys are already in WS shape.

50. The league is going to make the Orioles forfeit all of their games against us on account of our Red Sox being so friggin awesome.

JD Drew is going to play in 160 games next year and bat .450. Thats a FACT. Its science

And if you don't agree, then you are just a stubborn, sourpuss chicken little.

No it's not unreasonable to see the Sox missing out on the Post Season IMO.

Like any season there are certain unknowns that will play out to determine how the season goes. Will the Sox stay healthy? Can Lowell/Papi/Beckett rebound. Health is key for the Sox. Because i'm not sure they have the depth to sustain a key player missing significant time. But if everyone is generally healthy, except for the every day bumps and bruises, and produces with in career avg, the team shoul be competitive for the division.

But it's not just the ? in Boston that could determine things either.

Will TB be the same team again? Will the WS loss have any effect on the young players. Will they be better?

And then there is question with the Yanks. Will all the new pieces brought in, improve the team? Of course, on paper they look to be very strong. But we have been down that road with teams looking good on paper and not panning out.

Will Cleveland rebound, is Oakland going to make a run, will the Twins stick around. Making a WC spot even tougher.

The Sox will be in the division race, but between TB and NY, all 3 teams might beat each other out of the WC spot.

So ya making the Playoffs is going to be tough, but that's what makes it fun too watch:thumbsup:

Wow. Listen to you. THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!

Holy s***, Debbie Downer. Just open up the veins and get it over with. You obviously aren't a true fan.

Why do you even have questions about the success of this team for 2009? Everyone is CHASING US. Everyone wants to BE US. No doubt this is a 98-100 win team this season, we don't need to improve at all.

I hope your being sarcastic.

All I'm really trying to say is I think the division is more competitve, and that other teams have improved as well, making the WC spot no given like in some years past.

Yeah- you share an outlook close to mine for next season. Right now I think we are the 3rd best of the 3 teams, but its essentially impossible to tell these things in the offseason, and I see very little space between 1st and 3rd. Anything can happen- we shall see.

Bingo. The frustration at the moment comes from the Rays being a young, dynamic, improving team, the Yankees landing the big FA fish, and the Red Sox adding Josh Bard, Brad Penny, Ramon Ramirez, and Wes Littleton.

Wht the heck am I the only one in this thread who's got the marbles to say his team is going to win anything? All I'm getting from you flock of chickens is worry over what everyone else has got. As if we can't match it.

Never thought I'd run into fans of a near-dynastic team that were this terrified of their own shadows. How about a little actual confidence in what this team has, is, and can do? I don't think that's too much to ask of the fanbase of a team that has failed to win 90 games once in the last 6 years.

What a f***ing FAIL argument.

Yea, my view of the current Sox situation is:

"Aren't we in f***ing December?"

I don't think we're the 3rd best team in the division right now.

That will be decided by the actually complete rosters that take the field in April, right now, taking a neutral stance would be the way to go, because there's still a lot of time to improve the positions that are ACTUAL weaknesses.

Also, we lost on Teixeira, yeah yeah, big f***ing deal, everyone shut the f*** up about it already, and let's see what Theo does from here to March to make the team better and THEN decide by PERFORMANCE the balance of power in the AL East.
