About the only part that actually makes me hesitate on Marti is his age. A high-80's fastball is good enough if surrounded with other quality stuff and if he had time to adjust I'm positive he'd be useful, but I'm not sure he has that time.

Busy week ahead for the Red Sox. Trade talks are "intensifying" for Miguel Montero. It helps that the D-Backs are not believed to be asking for Clay. The Sox, according to Michael Silverman, are also expected to sign new players

I wonder if these are serious talks, or is this being leaked to try and get Texas to come down in demands?:dunno:

He would be 3rd on my personal list if the cost was equal for Salty, Teagarden, Montero.

But if he is costing less talent wise, then he jumps to the top.

I agree that would be the end of Tek in Boston. I find it hard to find a team he could play for though. Especially with him cost a 1st rounder.

Anyone think there's a chance he signs in Japan for a season? Or have a out clause if he gets a ML offer? Just throwing that out there.

Bye Varitek.

I understand that grabbing a major league catcher makes signing Tek much less of a priority, but I guess the question is, where else would he go if we don't sign him? Who will give up a first rounder to sign him? And at the price a team would pay to make that first rounder worth it, wouldn't we probably sign him on top of what we would already have?

Minor league deal with an invitation to ST.

He's 2nd on mine, a) Teagarden B) Montero c) Ramirez

Salty's a hitter that will likely end up having to play first at some point. We need a catcher for the future, one that can field and will be able to stay there without concerns about defense.

Masterson for Montero' date=' straight up.[/quote']

Seriously? They're looking for a prospect in return according to the article posted in this thread...so why give them a young, strong MLB relief pitcher.

Strong? Don't take me wrong but I would sell high right now. You never know.

He can still develop as a starter, I'm sure a lot of teams are interested.

thats all well and good but theyd damn well better figure out a way to start developing positional players' date=' the only one of their draft picks theyve developed into a good MLB player is Pedroia with the jury still out on Lowrie and Ellsbury[/quote']

not to change the subject but i think you forgot about Hanley Ramirez. we had him in our minors up until we traded him. and you say pedrio a good mlb player like he wasnt just the MVP.

Foolproof.

*hurls*

You know what they say, whenever you make something that's foolproof, someone invents a better fool.

:stop::wtf:

Man that is a horrible deal for the Sox. I come up with some doozies. I'd rather they keep everyone and sign Tek is there was a choice between the two.

I think you meant fool-ISH. That is the most moronic trade I have ever seen proposed. You are a fuggin dipshit.

For one..Ellsbury and Masterson are BOTH Better than Montero... Secondly, Byrnes hideously tore apart both hammies last year and is grossly overpaid...his contract is an albatross. If Theo takes him..he would be asking for Montero and only giving a couple of B-Level prospects.. Byrnes and Montero are both ANTI Theo players.. both display the patience of a 16 year old male virgin taking the tugboat to tuna-town for the first time... They are both hackers.

Was your trade proposal a joke...or are you really that stupid?
